Tourist Peak Season
May to October every year is the best time to visit Jiayuguan Pass.
June-August has a cool climate, and there are discounted tickets during tourist festivals, as well as performances and competitions at the Jiayuguan International Gliding Festival;
September through November is the best time to take photos while watching the sunrise and sunset in Guancheng.
October is a good time to climb the Qiyi Glacier. Bring ink!
Mirror, sunscreen, step into your hiking shoes and have a good time conquering the glacier.
Winter (December-February) is snowy and extremely cold in Jiayuguan, so it's best not to be capricious.
Local Festivals
Jiayuguan Pass hosts the International Gliding Festival in mid-July every year. Jiayuguan Gliding Base, a comprehensive aviation club focusing on gliding, has first-class gliding equipment and airflow conditions. Since the first International Gliding Festival was held in 1992, it has been greatly welcomed by domestic and foreign tourists.
Silk Road (International) Music and Culture Festival

Jiayuguan Pagoda
The Pass City was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1372, which is really quite a long time ago). It took 168 years from the initial construction to complete a full-fledged pass. It was the most dangerous of the nine towns along the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty, and is still well-preserved. in March 1961, it was listed by the State Council as one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. Jiayuguan Pass consists of three lines of defense: the inner city, the outer city and the moat, which are connected to the Great Wall. Now we can still feel the sense of tightness of ancient military defense when we get closer to see it.
Tianxia Di meal
The first pier of the Great Wall, also known as Tao Laijiang pier, is the southernmost pier of the West Great Wall of Jiayuguan, and the westernmost pier of the Great Wall of China in the Ming Dynasty. The first pier of the Great Wall was built by Li Han of Suzhou Military Road 7.5 kilometers north of Guan Cheng in the 18th year of Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty (1539 AD). The pier stands on a nearly 56-meter-high cliff near the Tao Lai River. The scenic area is about 3.22 square kilometers. Including the first pier of the Great Wall, comprehensive service area, Taolai River zip line, Taolai Inn, the sky dangerous suspension bridge, "drunken sand" sculpture group, "China Dragon Forest" and so on.
Cantilever Wall
The cantilever of the Great Wall is about 11 kilometers away from Jiayuguan City and 7 kilometers away from Jiayuguan Pass City. It is named "Cantilevered Great Wall" because it is built on a 45-degree ridge and looks like an upside-down sky. The cantilever of the Great Wall is the northern extension of the Jiayuguan Pass City, which is made of crushed stone and compacted loess obtained from the site. Here, a step walkway was constructed for visitors to climb. When you climb to the top, you can see the desolation of the desert outside the Pass. The military defense system area of the Hanging Great Wall includes the Hanging Great Wall, the Water Gate and the Ancient Weapons Exhibition. The resort is the green area on the north side of the Great Wall and the small square at the entrance of the scenic spot, which provides visitors with leisure services such as barbecue, tea, chess and card entertainment, and sale of tourist souvenirs. The management area mainly refers to the tourist service facilities on the south side of the Great Wall, including the management center, public toilets, squares and parking lots.
Jiayuguan Fante Fun World
Jiayuguan Fante is the only high-tech brand large-scale theme park in Gansu, Qinghai and Ningxia provinces. On the basis of retaining the original amusement programs of Fantasia, it has added amusement experiences rich in Northwest China and Silk Road characteristics. The Qiyi Glacier, located in Qifeng Tibetan Township, 116 kilometers southwest of Jiayuguan City in Gansu Province, is the nearest tourist glacier in Asia. The glacier tourist area is about 4 square kilometers. Traveling in autumn, you can see fantastic scenery in the glacier: the water flow from melting snow and ice carries waterfalls flying, and snowdrops compete with ice crystals. But on the mountain slopes and grassy slopes, there are cows and sheep everywhere, and the smoke from the shepherds' tents curls up, giving you a feeling of vitality. But sometimes the glacier is not open, and you can't get to the scenic area by car, so if you want to visit, you must know in advance.
