The deserts in Gansu are mainly distributed in Lanzhou and Dunhuang. Lanzhou has complex and diverse landforms, including mountains, plateaus, Pingchuan, river valleys, deserts and Gobi, with complete types and staggered distribution, and the terrain inclines from southwest to northeast. The terrain is long and narrow, with a length of 1.655 km from east to west and a width of 530 km from north to south. The complex landform can be roughly divided into six distinctive terrain areas.
Dunhuang City is located in the northwest of Gansu Province, which is connected with Guazhou County, Subei Mongolian Autonomous County and Aksai Kazak Autonomous County in the east and west respectively. Dunhuang is located at the intersection of Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang provinces, with Sanwei Mountain in the east, Mingsha Mountain in the south, the desert connected with Lop Nur in the west, Gobi in the north and the remaining veins of Tianshan Mountain. Dunhuang is famous for its brilliance and profound cultural connotation.
Famous scenic spots in Gansu
Mogao grottoes 1
Known as the "Oriental Louvre", the Mogao Grottoes are the largest and richest Buddhist art shrines in the world. From a distance, the Mogao Grottoes stand on the cliff behind them like a statue, which is very dignified and solemn.
All kinds of exquisite murals and lifelike Buddha statues in the cave let us see the splendid Buddhist culture after thousands of years. Some Buddha statues smile with low eyebrows, and some look at all sentient beings with compassionate eyes, as if telling stories thousands of years ago.
2. Crescent Spring in Mingsha Mountain
Mingsha Mountain is named after "the sand mountain melts in spring, and the wind blows the sand with sound", and "the spring reflects the moon without dust" is named Crescent Spring. Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring are twin sisters in the desert Gobi. The clear crescent spring is still lying in Mingsha Mountain, just like a cold and arrogant fairy, looking at the vast desert in the northwest.
