Afang Palace Fù :
ē fáng gōng fù
Fu title. It was written by Du Mu in Tang Dynasty. Afang Palace was built by Qin Shi Huang, but it was burned down by Xiang Yu before Qin died. In the poem, Du Mu used rich imagination to describe the grandeur of the palace and the extravagance of the palace life, and then pointed out that Qin did not spare the people's efforts and only knew how to search for the people's money, which finally led to the death of the country. It is intended to satirize the Tang rulers to learn from the lessons of history. It is a beautiful, fluent, and flavorful ending.

Six kings, four seas, one, Shushan Mountain, Afang. It covers more than three hundred miles, isolating the sky from the sun. Lixi Mountain is constructed in the north and folded in the west, going straight to Xianyang. Two rivers dissolve, into the palace wall. Five steps a building, ten steps a pavilion; Corridor waist Aman back, eaves high pecking; Each hold the terrain, hooks and corners. Pan Pan Yan, granary Yan, beehive water eddy, stand do not know its several tens of millions of fall. Long bridge lying wave, not cloud what dragon? Complex road traveling in the air, not clearing up the rainbow? High and low, I do not know the west and east. Singing platform warm sound, spring light melting; dance hall cold sleeve, wind and rain miserable. Within a day, a palace, and the climate is not the same.
Concubines and concubines, princes and grandchildren, resigned from the downstairs, the emperor's carriage to Qin. The first time I saw this, I was in the middle of the night, and I was in the middle of the night, and I was in the middle of the night. Star fluorescence, open makeup mirror; green clouds disturbed, combing the dawn maid also; we flow up greasy, abandoned fat water also; smoke oblique fog horizontal, burning pepper orchid also. Thunder at first startled, the palace car over also; reel far listening, do not know where it is also. A muscle and a face, all the state of extreme beauty, Aman standing far away, and look forward to lucky yam; have not seen the thirty-six years. Yan Zhao's collection, Han Wei's operation, Qi Chu's elite, a few years, plagiarized its people, leaning stacked like a mountain; once can not have, lose to its interiors. Tripods, jade and stone, gold beads and gravel, discarded meandering, the Qin people see, but also not very cherish.
Contempt! A person's heart, ten million people's hearts. Qin love the luxury, people also miss their homes. Why do you take all the centimeters, with as much as mud and sand? So that the negative columns, more than the farmers in the South mu; beam rafters, more than the machine on the work of women; nail head phosphorus, more than the grain of corn in the Yu; tile seam juxtaposition, more than the body of the silk strands; straight railings across the threshold, more than the nine earth of the city; piping vomit mute, more than the city's speech. The people of the world did not dare to speak but dared to be angry. The heart of the dictator became more and more arrogant. The soldiers called out, the Hangu raised, the Chu people a torch, poor scorched earth!
Whoops! The destruction of the six countries of the six countries, not the Qin also; family Qin Qin also, not the world also. Contempt! So that each of the six countries love their people, it is enough to reject the Qin; so that the Qin love the six countries of the people, then pass the three generations can be up to ten thousand generations and for the king, who have to be and the family extinction also? The Qin people have no time to mourn for themselves, but their descendants mourn for them; and when their descendants mourn for them and do not learn from them, they also make their descendants mourn for their descendants again.
Translation
The six kingdoms were destroyed and the world was unified. The trees in the mountains and forests of Sichuan were cut down to the ground, and the palace of A-Fang was built. (It) covered more than three hundred miles of land and almost obscured the sky. Built from the north side of Mount Li, it curved to the west and led all the way to Xianyang. The Wei River and the Fan River flowed, in a vast stream, into the palace walls. Five steps to a tall building, ten steps to a pavilion; long corridors like a belt, meandering, high eaves, like a bird beak in mid-air pecking. These pavilions ah, each by virtue of the different terrain, the difference between the embrace, the corridor around like a hook heart, eaves towering like a corner. Bend and turn, twists and turns back and forth, like a beehive as dense, such as water eddies such as the set of even, towering, I do not know how many tens of millions of them. The long bridge lies on the water (like a dragon), (but) there is no cloud, how can there be a dragon flying? The passageway between the pavilions is set up in mid-air (like a rainbow), (but) how can there be a rainbow if the rain is not over? The high and low pavilions were so dark and mysterious that one could not tell north, south, west and east. The singing from the high platform made people feel warm, as warm as spring; the dancing sleeves fluttering in the great hall made people feel cold, as if the wind and rain were as miserable as cold. In the same day, in the same palace, but the climate is very different.
The concubines of the six kingdoms and the daughters and granddaughters of the lords and princes left the palaces and pavilions of their homelands and came to Qin in their chariots. (They) sang in the morning and played the zither at night, and became courtesans of the Qin Emperor. (Early in the morning, I saw the stars twinkling, and they opened the mirror to make up; I saw the dark clouds disturbing, and they were combing their hair; the water was greasy and oily, and they poured down the powder and water; the light smoke and the fragrant mist filled the air, and it was the pepper and orchid that they burned. Suddenly, the thunderous sound shook the sky, (it was) the palace car sped through here; the sound of reeling wheels was gradually heard farther and farther away, I don't know where it was headed. (The courtesans) tried their best to show their charm and beauty, every skin, every gesture, all extremely touching. (They) stood for a long time, looking out, hoping that the emperor will be able to favor the visit; (poor) some thirty-six years have never seen the emperor's figure.
The wondrous treasures collected by Yan and Zhao, the gold and silver amassed by Korea and Wei, and the treasures preserved by Qi and Chu, were all plundered from the people and piled up in heaps over many years and generations. Once the country was broken and could no longer be possessed, they were all transported to the Afang Palace. (From now on) the precious tripod (as) iron pots, jade (as) stone, gold (as) dirt, pearl (as) gravel, littering, the Qin people look, do not feel pity. Alas! What one man thinks is also what millions of people think. The first emperor of Qin loved prosperity and luxury, and the common people were also fond of their own homes. Why did he not spare even a single cent when he searched for treasure, but squandered it as if it were mud and sand? Even the pillars supporting the beams are more numerous than the farmers in the fields; the rafters on the beams are more numerous than the weavers on the looms; the jagged seams of the tiles are more numerous than the silk threads worn by the people; the straight balustrades and the horizontal thresholds are more numerous than the corridors of the city of Kyushu; the monotonous and little-changing music is more numerous than the words of the people in the marketplace. (This) made the people of the world, though they dared not speak with their mouths, but their hearts were filled with anger. But the heart of Qin Shi Huang, the tyrant, became more and more arrogant and stubborn. As a result, Chen Sheng and Wu Guang rose up, and Liu Bang broke through the Hangu Pass; Xiang Yu set a great fire, but unfortunately the luxurious palace was turned into a scorched earth!
Alas! It was the six kingdoms themselves that destroyed the six kingdoms, not Qin. It was the king of Qin himself who destroyed the state of Qin, not the people of the world. Alas! If the rulers of the six kingdoms could each caress their own people, it would be enough to resist Qin; and (after Qin's unification) if they could also cherish the people of the six kingdoms, then they could pass on the throne to the third and even to the ten thousandth generation as emperors, and who would be able to exterminate him? The ruler of Qin was too late to lament his own downfall, but he made future generations lament it; and if future generations lament it and do not learn from it, then they will have to let those who come after them lament them again.
