Chaoshan is a city in Guangdong Province.
The Chaoshan region is located on the southeast coast of Guangdong Province, belonging to the Chaoshan cultural area and the dialect area of the Teochew language, the ancestral home and concentration of the Chaoshan folk lineage, the birthplace of the Chaoshan culture and its flourishing, and the area where the Teochew language is spoken and the Chaoshan culture is popular, including the four cities of Shantou (a special economic zone), Chaozhou, Jieyang, and Shanwei.
Chaoshan is bordered by the Lotus Mountains in the north, the South China Sea in the south, and Haifeng County in the west and Raoping County in the east, opposite Taiwan.
