Sweet and gentle, Jane is a young woman with a heart of gold. p>The gentle and virtuous Jane Hamilton (Heather Rocklair) is a single mother. From the mother's point of view, she can be called successful and beautiful, the eldest daughter Holly (Hilary Duff) and the youngest daughter Zoe in her careful care to thrive, Jane is both their mother and their friend, the three women's family life is happy. As a woman, however, Jane's love life is a floundering one, and whenever a man comes along, the lives of mother and daughter begin to falter. The most worrying thing is not the adolescent Holly, but her mom, who is about to enter the age of uncertainty. In the eyes of her daughter, Holly, has long since figured out her mom's emotional pattern: start getting along with a not-so-good man, the short-lived sweetness quickly transforms into an unavoidable rupture, and then after the breakup, Jane will leave the place of heartbreak as soon as possible, take Holly and Zoe and move to another city, expecting that the man who will show up at the next stop will be different from the previous one.

In this way, Jane's love affair goes from week to week, and her two daughters move with her as she moves from place to place. As an adult, Holly desperately wants them to settle down somewhere where they can go to school dances without distractions and live normal lives like their peers around them. Holly doesn't want her mother to repeat the heartbreaking romance, believing that she should recognize her own charms and strengths, and that love isn't the only source of happiness.

With Holly constantly considering the best person for her mom to date, who can stop a heartbreaking romance from happening again? When another of Jane's loves is declared over, Holly begins to realize that time is running out and she must immediately formulate a plan to create a suitor for Jane, a surprisingly ultra-perfect man, as the only way to save her mom's relationship.

Holly has to get started, because her mom's co-worker, the down-on-his-luck but kind-hearted baker Lenny, is becoming the new suitor, and Holly realizes that her fabricated emails, letters, and gifts are no longer effective at calming her down, and that her mom is getting distracted by Lenny's silly '80s-style courtship "siege. Mom becomes distracted by Lenny's silly '80s-style courtship "siege". In desperation, Holly enlists the help of her friend's uncle, Ben (Chris Noth), to act as the "invisible" man who has been secretly in love with her mom, and whose longstanding correspondence has convinced Jane that he is a gentle and charming restaurateur.

But, to Holly's surprise, and perhaps because Ben is so charming, the stopgap measure that Holly and her new partner, Adam, are planning with Ben's niece, Amy***, grows more and more uncontrollable, and as the relationship progresses, Holly struggles with how to perpetuate the lie that all that matters to her is that she keeps her mom happy and that they can put down roots. But Holly's troubles remain intractable, and she puts so much thought into her plans that she almost misses out on the ultra-perfect man of her own ......

Tom Baker (Steve Martin) and his wife Kate (Bernie Hunt), however, have 12 children, and have always felt that the more children they have, the happier their lives will be. Those 12 children range from their oldest daughter, Annie (Piper Peradu), who is now 22 and living on her own, to mischievous twin brothers, Nigel and Sean, who are just 5 years old.

This large, cozy but not without a bit of chaos lives together in a small town in Illinois. Tom coaches a football team at the local school. Suddenly, one day, Tom gets his dream job and is asked to coach the football team at Northwestern University in Chicago.
