Fish Bone Temple, also known as Dragon King Temple. This temple is located on the seaside two kilometers east of Taoluo Town. Behind the temple is Daling, which is composed of nine small ridges. The ridge is a sandy land with more than 5,000 acres of land, all covered by pine forests. In front of the temple is the mouth of Changliuhai River, where hundreds of rivers, including Chuanzi River, Qingdun River, Jufeng River, Buluo River, Zhuzi River, Gaowang River, and Linzi River, gather together and run eastward into the sea.
It is said that the Fish Bone Temple was built with the bones of big fish, which is very unique. It is a special temple worshiped by fishermen. Like the Dragon King Temple, the Fish Bone Temple also enshrines the Dragon King. It is impossible to verify when the Fish Bone Temple was built. However, according to the stone tablet records in the original temple, the "Fish Bone Temple" already existed in the Sui Dynasty. Based on this calculation, the history of the Fish Bone Temple is at least more than 1,400 years.
It collapsed decades ago, leaving only the fish bone beams. A section of the remaining fish bone beams of the fish bone temple that used to have "fish scales as tiles and fish bones as beams", Taoluo Town Government, Donggang District, Rizhao City In the conference room, it is 1.7 meters long and weighs more than 100 kilograms. Guo Jia, president of the Rizhao City Collectors Association, said that such a large fish bone is rare in the country. In the cultural relics store in Rizhao City, there is also a fish skull and a small piece of fish bone joint on display, which are also part of the fish bone beam of the Fish Bone Temple.
Ding Yuanmao, a temple visitor, said that starting from his grandfather, three generations of ancestors and grandchildren have been temple visitors to the Fish Bone Temple. In the past, the entire temple was backed by dense jungle and looked forward to the vast sea. The scene was extremely spectacular.
The temple has two entrance halls, which are divided into the front hall, the back hall and the west front hall (this hall is smaller). Each hall has three rooms. The front and back halls are both about five meters wide. There is no courtyard in the entire temple. wall. There is a statue of the Dragon King in the middle of the front hall. On the left and right of the Dragon King statue are eight statues of gods including Thunderbolt General (Thunderbolt), Lightning Queen, Wind God (female), Rain God, and Yaksha. All the statues are shaped according to the characteristics of each god. They are crafted with exquisite craftsmanship and are lifelike, which is shocking and makes your muscles tremble. On the north wall behind the Dragon King Statue. There are two stone tablets on the left and right. The left tablet reads "Reconstruction in the Early Years of the Sui Dynasty" (inscribed by Xu Han, a Rizhao Judicial Scholar in the Qing Dynasty), and the right tablet reads "I moved here three times". The ceiling panel on the ridge purlin of the palace records: "Rebuilt in the midsummer of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty." There is a dragon on each of the east and west beams. The two dragons have golden scales and golden claws. Their eyes are bright and they appear like real dragons. A large plaque hangs directly above the hall, with the four golden words "The sea is calm" written on it. The couplets of the palace gates change every year, and it was planned to use couplets such as "Chao Chao Chao Chao Chao Chao, long, long, long, long" and "Thousands of rivers with water, thousands of rivers and moons, thousands of miles of cloudless sky." There are four steps in front of the door. The palace courtyard is about 15 meters wide from east to west and about 10 meters long from the south to the mountain gate. The mountain gate is a large and lonely temple-style room with direct access from front to back without a door. Its eaves protrude greatly. Entering the front and back doors, you will see the screen wall. The wall is about 2.5 meters high and 4 meters wide. There is a big "Fu" with a dragon head painted on the wall, which looks like a real dragon coiled on it. The mountain gate is also called "three gates" by the natives (there is no test for this name). It is located at a high altitude (below are the bay and the seaport), and the sea breeze blows strongly. It is a good place to escape the summer heat and visit and rest. During the hot summer season, fishermen who park their boats in seaports and bays are often willing to enjoy the cool air while fishing. For the convenience of others, some regular visitors even set up a pergola near the "three gates" while mending fishing nets. , chatting and laughing about the past and present, so happy. Even those who came to watch the sea and enter the temple could not bear to leave. It was really like "the breeze will come to you if you don't shake your hand, and the white clouds will take you away before your towel is stained with sweat."
There is a magical legend about this temple:
It is said that in the early years, on the shoal outside Jiacang Haikou, a huge shark came up from the sea. The fish’s eyes had already No, it was brought to the shore by two small fish. When the tide dropped, the two small fish turned around and swam away, but the big fish stayed alone on the beach for several days. The day passed, but for some reason, the little fish never came back, and the tide never rose to that place. Finally, the big fish, which had lost its eyes, died pitifully on that lonely beach...
That night, people suddenly had a dream together. They dreamed that the Dragon King said that because the fish was guilty of repeatedly devouring fishermen at sea, he had its eyes removed and left it to die on the seashore, and asked it to die on the seashore. The fishermen on the seaside sacrificed their meat and returned their bones, in order to show their heavenly virtue, to show the power of the dragon, to warn their fish, and to calm their people... The people woke up and were shocked.
The next day, those people who had lost their loved ones at sea were constipated and kept away from each other... Finally, they gathered in large numbers, became bold, and rushed to the beach together with knives and baskets...
In order to thank the Dragon King for his kindness, the people spent all their money to build a small single-room temple with fish bones on the west slope of the ridge where the big fish fell shallow. It's called "Fishbone Temple". Unexpectedly, the temple was destroyed by floods just after it was built. People were very uneasy, so they once again worked together to spend money to move the temple westward to the northern end of Daling (today's "Longwang Cliff" on the south cliff of Jiacangkou, from which the name "Longwang Cliff" was derived). At this time, the temple was already It was expanded into three rooms. In addition to the statue of the Dragon King, there are also statues of several sea gods).
After the temple was moved, people followed the local custom of "going to the temple on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Septembers" to offer incense and offer sacrifices to the temple, and pray to the Dragon King to bless those who went to sea to fish more and return safely. The Dragon King saw that people were very kind and pious, but also thought that their expenses were too high, so he said in a dream, "Thank you for your kindness, I can enjoy the fireworks in the world, but not too many times. Every year, the sixteenth day of the first lunar month and the thirteenth day of the sixth lunar month belong to me." On birthdays, all living beings can continue to come and go as they wish, just twice a year." From then on, people followed the Dragon King's instructions and only went to the temple to offer incense and offer sacrifices on these two days every year.
A few years later, a plague suddenly appeared on the seaside, and many people died. That night, the Dragon King told people in a dream for the third time, "The bones of the temple can be roasted to make medicine, and the patients will be cured by using them." When people heard this, they were shocked and frightened, and they said "dare not". The Dragon King thought about it and then said, "All living beings must not be suspicious. I am telling the truth. Furthermore, the temple is also located in the underworld. I see the nine dragons excreting every day. I can't bear to see it. After the temple is destroyed, you can move south." The Dragon King said this. One thing to say. Only then do people dare to go to the temple to remove bones and treat illnesses. Treatment will surely lead to recovery, but only fish bones and purlins are left in the temple. The plague will be completely eliminated. One night a few days later, people suddenly dreamed of an old immortal with a white beard and a childlike face coming down from the southern sky. The old immortal said: "From now on, there will be no plague here. I have worshiped the Lord of Japan to save my life." The living beings from other places have now taken away the remaining fish bones." The Nanxian finished speaking and disappeared. The next day, people went to the temple to see that the roof of the temple had been opened, the fish bone ridge purlin was gone, but the Dragon King was sitting in the open air. People were even more surprised...
Repay the Dragon King for saving his life. Well, people followed what he said in his dream and moved the temple for the second time and built it in the middle of Daling (near today's Yantai east of Liujiawan Village). Unexpectedly, after the temple was built, the mountains above and below became a sea of ??snakes. Insects crawled around, making it difficult to walk.
People invited a stranger to inspect, and the stranger said: "Daling belongs to the land of snakes, and the snake belly is crushed by the temple, so there are many snakes." Therefore, people followed his instructions and gave all their money. The temple was moved for the third time and built at the southern end of Daling (now the temple site), and the temple was expanded - the back hall, the west front hall and the west chamber were added (the stele in the temple said "Reconstruction in the early years of the Sui Dynasty and three moves") The record "up to this point" refers to this time).
Since the temple was built with fish bones, no monks or Taoist monks came to live here until the "Three Moves" and in the following years. Only after the "Three Moves", there were gatherings of hundreds of monks. Usually, only the range watchers entrusted by the villagers live in the four thatched houses at the west end of the back hall. Later, when the house became vacant, the temple was managed by the "Tianhouguan" temple (located in the northeast corner outside Taoluo Town). In the late years of Guangxu, a family named Ding was entrusted by the "Tianhouguan" monk Hengshan (the name of the Dharma) to live here and guard the temple.
Among the many fish bone temples, the Rizhao Fish Bone Temple is the most famous. "The Stage Couplet" only contains four couplets from Rizhao Fish Bone Temple:
One:
Yao and Shun were born, Tang Wujing, Huan Wen were late and ugly, and there are so many characters in ancient and modern times.
