What are the activities of the National Sports Conference? How is it different from the National Games?

The National Sports Conference is one of the three major comprehensive sports events in the country, along with the National Games and the City Games. Starting from the third session, it will be held every four years. The purpose of holding the Third National Sports Conference is to actively promote the implementation of the national fitness plan, improve the competitive level of non-Olympic sports, further activate the people's amateur cultural life, and promote the comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of my country's sports industry.

The Third National Sports Conference*** features skills, fin swimming, aviation models, navigation models, golf, billiards, go, chess, Chinese chess, bodybuilding, bowling, bridge, gateball, Dragon and lion dance, roller skating, Chinese wrestling, sports dance, aerobics, rock climbing, orienteering, dragon boating, water skiing, radio direction finding, skydiving, tug of war, metal bocce ball, squash and open water swimming (has become the official 2008 North Olympics Competition items) and other 28 competition items. At that time, more than 40 delegations, more than 10,000 athletes, coaches, referees, etc. from all over the country will gather in the ancient city of Suzhou. While participating in the competition for 268 gold medals, they will also celebrate with the people of Suzhou "a grand gathering of sports, people's festival". The National Games of the People's Republic of China, referred to as the "National Games", is the highest level and largest comprehensive sports meeting in China. The first National Games was held on September 13, 1959. It will be held in Beijing from October 3 to October 3. The Games are held every four years, usually one year after the Olympic Games (the interval between the first three games is not fixed, and the longest interval is ten years; the interval between the seventh and seventh games is six years). At present, the setting of competition events in the National Games is basically the same as that in the Olympic Games except for martial arts. Its original intention is to train newcomers and select talents for the country's Olympic strategy. However, the results of the National Games are regarded by various provinces and cities as an important indicator of their sports and comprehensive strength. Therefore, competition among provinces and cities is very fierce, and even violates the original intention of holding the National Games. In order to mobilize the enthusiasm of provinces and municipalities, the State Sports General Administration introduced the initiative of "bringing Olympic medals into the National Games" before the 1996 Olympic Games. The medals won by athletes from a certain province or municipality on behalf of the country at the Olympics will be regarded as the medals of the province or municipality. District results will be included in the National Games held the following year.

In the first four National Games, competitions included summer sports, winter sports, military sports and national sports. Since then, as the country has adjusted its focus on sports development, it has begun to concentrate on preparing for the Olympic Games. To achieve a breakthrough in the Olympic Games, we must first start with summer sports. Therefore, starting from the Fifth National Games, the country carried out comprehensive sports reform, and the project settings of the National Games began to gradually align with the Summer Olympics. There will no longer be winter sports in the National Games, and winter sports will be held separately at the National Winter Games.

In order to promote the development of winter sports and implement the "Northern Ice and South Exhibition" project, starting from the Seventh National Games, some winter sports events have been re-included in the National Games competitions. The Seventh National Games established short-track speed skating and speed skating events, the Eighth National Games added figure skating events, and the Eleventh National Games added freestyle skiing events. The first nine National Games were held alternately in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong. In early 2001, the General Office of the State Council of China officially issued the "Letter on Cancellation of the Restriction on the National Games being held in rotation between Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong", canceling the restriction on the National Games being held in rotation between Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong. This restriction Cancellation, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hubei, and Shaanxi provinces officially submitted bids to host the 10th National Games. After fierce competition, Jiangsu Province finally won the right to host the 10th National Games.
