Introduction to the square of Hefei Municipal Plaza

The first thing that catches the eye is the "Technology Axis" of the square. The "Technology Axis" is a sculpture with the theme of "life and movement" that faces the dry fountain in the square and connects the northern section of Huayuan Street. On the axis, there are modern components with high technological connotations such as stainless steel, touch multimedia, music fountains, clock fountains and Modern lighting is used to highlight the theme of science and technology. The "Century Globe" with a diameter of 2 meters shows that Hefei welcomes friends from all over the world to come here for sightseeing, leisure, tourism and investment. The "100-meter Science and Technology Gallery" is located on one side of the "Science and Technology Axis". It is composed of a single steel plate. It is bright and light. The theme composition adopts an anti-arc "flying" shape, reflecting the theme of "development and progress" of science and technology. The 9.8-meter-tall stainless steel sculpture "Voyage" shows that Hefei people in the new century have the confidence and ability to create a beautiful new Hefei, ride the wind and waves, and sail towards a bright future. The science and technology gallery uses S-shaped awning panels, echoing the S-shaped "natural axis" of the square, making it appear elegant and smooth, increasing the sense of intimacy with visitors.

A large musical fountain is arranged at the intersection of the "Cultural Axis" and the "Technological Axis". The fountain is decorated with ground mosaics to form a map pattern of Hefei's urban area, which is unique. The large musical dry fountain has a diameter of 35 meters and a water spray height of up to about 26.5 meters. Whenever the music sounds, the spring water dances up and down with the changes of the melody, which is majestic and adds a cheerful and peaceful atmosphere to the square. The flagpole on the flag stand in the stadium is 21 meters high, symbolizing that we have entered the 21st century.

Turn right and you will come to the "natural axis" of the square. The S-shaped "natural axis" is the leisure corridor of the square, which better reflects the nature-oriented and people-oriented modern concept. The green landscape of the entire square strives to be complete and unified, highlighting the simple and bright features of modern urban square landscapes. The planning layout is mainly based on a complete and open lawn, interspersed with smooth and continuous flower belts, etc., with trees, shrubs, and lawns transitioning layer by layer and staggered at different heights. The tree species were selected from the city's tree magnolia, trees such as ginkgo and osmanthus, and shrubs such as pomegranate. What is particularly creative is that some tall trees are arranged in a strip along the perimeter of the Bank of Communications building to block the line of sight and dilute the uncoordinated relationship between the large building and the square. At night, when viewed from both sides of the "natural axis", the entire square is illuminated by colonnades and lawn lights, and the grass is shining brightly.

After passing through the stone path paved with granite, we arrived at the Cultural Gallery. The Cultural Gallery is located at the southern end of the "Cultural Axis" of the square. Times come and go, and culture is passed on. The "Cultural Axis", as the view axis of the municipal government office building, has arranged a series of historical and cultural sketches with distinctive characteristics, focusing on showing that the development of modern Chinese civilization can never be separated from the five thousand years of splendid ancient Chinese culture. Among them, the "Quotation Gallery" is the most distinctive. It is a double glass wall supported by granite columns, giving people a light, transparent and modern feeling. The most representative one is the "China Origin" complex. It is composed of three parts: the wall relief "Source" and "Pulse", the bronze relief "Chinese Mirror" (Qinglong [East] White Tiger [West] Zhuque [South] Xuanwu [North]) and the ground seal carving "Hundred Family Surnames" , which not only embodies the spirit of traditional culture, but also has modern artistic taste. "Source" and "Pulse" are two symmetrical reliefs, made of bronze and stainless steel, with the seal script "Hundred Family Surnames" as the substrate. The combination of glass and bronze gives the work a distinctive personality. The reliefs and texts on the ground allow people to find their surnames and zodiac signs here. The text decoration of the bronze relief sculpture of "Chinese Mirror" clearly reflects the characteristics of Han Dynasty culture. Interpreting this scene, people will unknowingly integrate into the square culture.

The roads around the Municipal Plaza are in the shape of a circular carousel, and the four surrounding roads are all one-way lanes. Vehicles travel around the periphery of the square, and the flow of people in the square is connected to the surrounding commercial district and Huayuan Street through underground passages. Pedestrians and cars go their own way. There is also a two-story underground garage of 14,500 square meters under the square, which can park 360 vehicles, effectively alleviating traffic pressure.
