'Through the Cold to Embrace You has seen a polarization of word-of-mouth and box office - has it won or lost?

For the sake of the movie's authenticity, the director visited Wuhan to examine some of the basics of the time. The initial idea was about the Express Brothers, but in the process of writing the script, I felt that the group of volunteers represented by the Express Brothers was particularly worthy of being written about. The Express Brothers may be just one of the typical characters, but it doesn't represent the group image of all the volunteers, so this is also a group portrait description, which we later changed from a typical character to a group of volunteers. However, descriptions of group portraits pose a big dilemma in that it is easy to get scattered and hard to find a theme or a big plot and connect all these group portraits together. With that, we began to conceptualize a second script, and I thought we could use several groups of love stories in such a specific context as the central idea and series of this story.

There are always so many people surrounding each other and warming each other in the cold wind. Maybe it's a strange messenger, maybe it's their loved ones that are doing their best to warm each other up. This movie tells a variety of heartwarming stories during the Wuhan epidemic. In the face of a major "disease epidemic", some may wonder when the gloom will pass. Only the biting wind reminds people that it will take a long time. It is in such a time of crisis that a large number of ordinary heroes have emerged.

It is their obscurity that makes them feel a touch of warmth in the cold winter. The hostess plays a messenger who regards money as his life, but when someone faints in front of her, he has to take them to hospital despite the danger. When the messenger played by the man saw that the doctor standing on the front line had no one to pick him up, he resolutely took the responsibility of escorting the doctor; there are many other touching points in the movie, which are worth our careful taste.

With the impact of the epidemic and the pressure of how many groups there are out there, we did come from some very fresh archetypal characters and some very real material. So when we were writing and expressing that in the script, I think everyone on our production team had a very deep heart and felt that this thing really wasn't fictionalized but came from a part of real life.

From the very beginning, we decided that we wanted to do an all-dialect show, and because we wanted to fully recover, or get as close as we could to real life, in a very specific time and setting in Wuhan, we asked the actors to perform in full dialect. We also tried to choose some actors who were born in Hubei or Wuhan, but there were still many problems. One of us recorded our original lines and sent them a sample. Meanwhile, we invited this language teacher on the set, but it was still difficult. Then, since I'm not from Wuhan, I can't judge.

The harsh reality of this separation of life and death, of yin and yang, but after traversing all this misery, we can see that both Wuhan and the country as a whole are really full of smoke, fire, and energy once again, which means our lives are still the same, and that goodwill may change in more different ways.
