Jinan University, founded in 1906 and located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is the first overseas Chinese institution of higher learning founded by the state in China, directly under the leadership of the Central United Front Work Department. Jinan University is one of the national "double first-class world-class disciplines" and "2 1 1 engineering" key universities.

In the thirty-second year of Guangxu (1906), Duan Fang, then governor of the two rivers, wrote to Emperor Guangxu, requesting permission for "expatriates from various islands in Nanyang, Honolulu and San Francisco" to return to Nanjing to study, so as to "teach the motherland and tie the feelings of overseas Chinese". After preparation, the school site was chosen in Miaoxiang Temple in Xue Jia Lane, Nanjing. It is located in the center of Nanjing, south of the Drum Tower, north of the Zen Building, and adjacent to Jinling University in the northwest.
19 1 1 June, 10, Wuchang died, and the provinces responded. Zhang Xun, who was stationed in Nanjing, led the "Braid Army" to attack Nanjing, and once transported the artillery to Jinan School. The school quickly sent students to take refuge in Shanghai, most overseas Chinese students returned to Nanyang, and a few joined the revolutionary army, so Jinan School was closed.
In the early years of the Republic of China, Yuan Shikai stole the presidency. He was afraid that the revolutionary party would threaten his regime and that "Jinan is a revolutionary party", so he held a negative attitude towards recovering Jinan. As a result, most overseas Chinese youths at that time either dropped out of school overseas, stayed in the mainland or were displaced.
