Shi Guangnan Biography

Shi Guangnan Music Square inaugurated in Chongqing

People's musician Shi Guangnan was born in Nanshan, Chongqing, in 1940, and his parents named him Guangnan, which means "light shines on Nanshan". In order to commemorate this famous musician, Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Landscape Architecture in Nanshan Botanical Garden (formerly Nanshan Park) to build Guangnan Music Square. The square is beautifully wide, with a performance stage, can hold concerts and cultural performances. Shi Guangnan sculpture is stepping up preparations, the people of the city hope that Shi Guangnan Mrs. Hong Ruding and Shi Guangnan comrades "comrades" Guan Mucun will be able to personally visit the Nanshan for the unveiling of the statue, *** with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the birth of the musician Shi Guangnan, wishing that his beautiful and touching music long wafted in the top of the Nanshan Mountain in the beautiful scenery.

Shi Guangnan (1940-1990), a native of Ye Village, Yuandong Township, Jindong District, Jinhua, is the son of political activist Shi Fuliang. A first-class composer, he is an outstanding representative of the generation of composers who grew up after the founding of New China.

His compositions "Where are you, Premier Zhou" and "Toast Song" are famous. Toast Song" won the top spot in the "15 Favorite Radio Songs" contest in 1980, and was compiled by UNESCO into the world's music teaching materials. Later on, he composed a large number of excellent songs such as "White Feather Sends Deep Love", "Ballad of Taiwan Angelica", "If You Want to Know Me", "On the Fields of Hope", and "Playing Tambourine and Singing". Unfortunately, he collapsed early on the piano and ended his short but glorious life in the sound of songs. In honor of Shi Guangnan, Jindong District built Shi Guangnan Music Square.

The "tone-deaf" family

Shi Guangnan was born in the mountain city of Chongqing in 1940, and when he was 4 years old, his mother, who was the principal of an elementary school, couldn't bear to lock up the youngest child

alone in the house, and brought Shi Guangnan to his own elementary school to study.

The following year, the city of Chongqing was preparing to hold a music competition for elementary school students. The school recommended Shi Guangnan, who was a gifted and talented musician, to compete in the competition. Before the competition, the music teacher took great pains to select a repertoire for him to sing. Shi Guangnan, however, did not think, another way, humming, made up a song: "Spring is here, peach blossoms, birds fly, yellow mandarin ducks in the trees. They are happy, I am also happy, all of us are happy." Shi Guangnan won the second place in Primary School Group B, holding the prize of the big wooden horse, and returned triumphantly. This song, whose lyrics were recorded by his mother, was Shi Guangnan's debut novel, Spring is Here. He was just five years old.

Family nurturing, ear and eye, the son inherited his father's work, it seems to be the creation, 'prodigy' of the heavenly gift of opportunity. It is hard to believe, Shi Guangnan love of music, but literally grew up in a "tone deaf" family: sister Xiwen, brother learned to work, mom did education, dad engaged in the economy, all insulated from the music. Neither abundance of family learning, but also no master teacher point of view, the early years of Shi Guangnan's high musical talent, strong creative inspiration, called people marveled.

Playing a "dumb riddle"

One day in the summer of 1956, the Central People's Broadcasting Station Junior Choir concert was held in the People's Theater. Laughing people bustled into the brightly lit hall. At this moment, a teenager slowly paced, wandering in the shadow of the street lamp. He really wanted to shout, "Who has extra tickets?" But dared not. He waited silently in his eagerness. A kind uncle read the teenager's mind and gave him a free ticket to the party. He was like a treasure and thanked him joyfully. "Next program: 'Lazy Dunya' ......" The beautiful, bright and cheerful melody won sincere applause. The teenager waiting for his ticket smiled ...... or the summer of this year. In the Qingdao high cadres sanatorium club, the ballroom music floor erected a row of sheet music racks. A teenager curiously flipped through the sheet music. Suddenly, his eyes widened in astonishment....... In the evening, the boy sat quietly in a corner of the ballroom, waiting in anticipation. Finally, the orchestra began to play a Waltz. The teenager smiled again ......1 In the summer of 1957, the Beijing 10 music publication "Songs of the Round Dance" had brought them much joy and pleasure ah! Right! A selection was made and transcribed by donation. When the book containing more than thirty Chinese and foreign folk songs was published, one of the students, the teenager who had waited for a party ticket and had been turned away from the ballroom, smiled once again....... Why did he smile? Originally, that even connoisseurs have not raised questions about the "Lazy Dunia" and the anonymous "Round Dance" and the anonymous booklet of more than 30 Chinese and foreign folk songs that spread to Qingdao, is not at all with the "Acha Du Liya", "Fang Yao", The compositions are not by composers with odd names such as "Achadulia", "Fang Yao", "Argibson", etc., but are all from Shi Guangnan's hand.

Why did Shi Guangnan play dumb with society? For one thing, he was very shy at the time, afraid of shyness, do not like to publicize; for another, he thought it was fun, 'dumb riddles' to make him feel some kind of spiritual happiness, and for another, he thought that only in this way, he could get unbiased and fair evaluation. For this reason, after he took over the "Yuanmingyuan Hysteria", while publishing the popular songs of the time, he also put his own "private goods"-those works labeled with different countries, nationalities, and authors, but in fact they were all his own creations-into this publication. It was through this publication that Shi Guangfu's "Lazy Dunya" and "Round Dance", which he composed at the age of twelve, were spread to the public through blackmail.

Falling short, starting from scratch

Graduating from junior high school, Shi Guangnan insisted on taking the exam for the Conservatory of Music High School, while his parents wanted him to finish the secondary school curriculum by the book, and that's how he was dissuaded from doing so. The parents' negligence cast a thick shadow over their son's mind. "Enroll in the Conservatory!" After his hopes of attending the secondary school attached to the Academy of Music were dashed, Shi Guangnan had no choice but to turn his back and apply directly to the Conservatory of Music. The enrollment brief of the composition department of the Conservatory was in black and white: candidates should have a considerable level of knowledge of music theory, harmony and a certain level of piano. I know very little about music theory; I know nothing about harmony; I haven't touched the piano, and I'm not even familiar with the pentatonic score. "Take the test! You must take the test!" Mom was y moved when she realized her son's unfulfilled ambition: "We really didn't know you loved music so much what do you need now?" "Everything from scratch. Learn piano." By this time, there was only six months left before the exam period.

Shi Guangnan, on the brink, bought a copy of Beyer's Beginner's Piano Course. His mother was looking for a piano teacher. After all the trouble, she finally found a private piano teacher, Mrs. Lin, who lived in Dongdan. With tuition and gifts, Shi Guangnan hurried to Mrs. Lin's home with his mother.

Mrs. Lin was teaching a very young girl how to play the piano, and when she saw her "uninvited guests" at her door, she asked, "Who are you looking for?" "We're here to learn piano." "Who's learning?" "Him!" The mother hurriedly pushed the tall Shi Guangnan forward, who, at the age of seventeen, happened to be standing right next to the little girl learning to play the piano. "Him? I never teach anyone that old. Here, the fingers stiffened long ago." The mother explained again and again, Mrs. Lin was indifferent, and the mother had no choice but to pull Shi Guangnan back the way she came.

After half a year, Shi Guangnan apprehensively walked into the examination room. The first level is a written test. Because I don't know the music terminology, I answered the question. The second level is the interview. Sitting in the middle of the Conservatory of Music Vice President Jiang Dingxian said, "First play a sonata." "I can only play Mozart's Sonata in G Major." There was a commotion in the exam room.

Such a simple piece is only worthy of a music elementary school exam! Even though it was such a simple piece, Shi Guangnan had still deadpanned it note by note. Shi Guangnan was a little weak, his fingers trembled, he kept making mistakes, the whole thing was a mess, and he couldn't play any more after playing only a quarter of it.

...... hoping for the gold list, but the name fell, Shi Guangnan read the list, dragging a heavy pace home. Just when he was at the end of his tether, he suddenly received a letter from Prof. Jiang Dingxian: "Mr. Shi Guangnan, your basic knowledge is poor, but considering that you have a good sense of music and talent for composition, we suggest that you go to the annexed middle school to insert a class to learn and build a good foundation."

The eastbound train took Shi Guangnan to Tianjin, the guest of the Haihe River. He would start a new life at the Central Conservatory of Music's attached middle school, which was still based here.

The road to climbing the musical ladder had just begun.
