Shennongjia is located in the west of Hubei Province, bordering Jingxiang in the east, the Yangtze River in the south, Chongqing in the west and Wudang in the north. According to legend, China's ancestor, Emperor Yan of Shennong, was named after "taking wood as a ladder to help climb the mountain", "taking wood as a shelter from the wind and rain" and finally "taking wood as an altar to cross the crane to heaven".
Shennongjia is a mountainous area with high mountains and deep valleys. The main peak Shennongjia is Shennongding, with an altitude of 3 105 meters. It is the highest peak in Central China and is known as the "Roof of Central China". There are towering old trees, exotic flowers and herbs everywhere in the area, and the plant species are very rich. A large number of ancient plants called "living fossils" grow in Qianjiaping, southeast of the main peak, such as Davidia involucrata, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Pistacia chinensis, Lagerstroemia indica and so on. In the southwest of the forest area, there is an independent mountain peak called' Wangnongge'. There is a stone forest under the pavilion, with a cliff at the top and a deep stream at the bottom. It twists and turns, or graceful, or like an ape holding a column, or like a tiger coming down the mountain, with different postures and lifelike. Surrounded by the stone forest, the clouds are looming, which is known as "the stone forest is full of clouds and rain" and is a great spectacle in Shennongjia forest area. On the north side of Shennongding, the canyon is winding, the peaks and rocks stand upright, the waterfalls are uneven and the scenery is wonderful, so it has the reputation of "Hongping Gallery". In addition, there are many strange caves, Chaoshui River, Monkey Stone, Nanya Mountain, Xiaodangyang Village Village and other scenic spots in Shennongjia District.
