Analysis: The idea for the symphony came from the book of the same name by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, which depicts a philosophical process in which atheists move from materialism to materialism. Jiang Wen has long been known as a staunch advocate of "Marxist-Leninist-Maoist" materialism. Of course, Strauss's work is also known to moviegoers because it appeared in the opening scenes of Kubrick's "2001 Space Odyssey" and Stephen Chow's "Shaolin Soccer," and Kubrick is one of Jiang Wen's most admired directors.

The play focuses on Yang Yuhuan's mindset of self-appreciation of her wistfulness after she gets drunk, highlighting her tenderness toward the emperor. In "One Step Away," the big moon appears just as the song "White Moon in the Sky" is sung, and elements of the lyrics such as "Jade Rabbit" appear in the dialog between Ma and Wanyan Ying.
3. Jean Hisaishi's original

Analysis: Jean Hisaishi, the famous Japanese soundtrack artist who collaborated with Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano on several films, actually completed an original score for Jiang Wen for only one movie, "The Sun Also Rises," but since then, Jiang has used the same melody over and over again for "Let the Bullets Fly" and this one, "One Step Beyond".
