The fourth chapter of the opening ceremony, "African Blood," featured South African songstress Mazwai singing along with a huge shitter, and then the giant official World Cup ball, "Punto de Mayo," rolled into the stadium and was pushed out by the shitter.
South African rhythm and blues singer Molloy performed Ntchebe's song "Hope". Mandela had named South African tenor Ntchebe to perform at the opening ceremony, but just two days after recording the World Cup song "Hope" last month, Ntchebe, 35, died tragically young of bacterial meningitis, so the song "Hope" was performed by Molloy instead. As Molloy left the stage, a headshot of Nchebe was shown on the big screen.
Chapter 5, "Africa in Unity," featured South African rap singer Panchula joining the choral group TKZee for the song "Shibobo," and after performances by Algerian pop singer Karedeh and Ghanaian band Osibasa, Nigerian songstress Kuti performed the song "BANG BANG BANG.
In the sixth chapter, "A World of Unity," Grammy Award-winning American rhythm and blues singer Kelly sang his own World Cup theme song, "Omen of Victory," with South Africa's Soweto Spirituals on backing vocals. The flags of the participating top 32 appeared in the center of the field, surrounded by the flags of other FIFA member countries and regions, including China's five-star red flag.
