From the beginning to the end of the year.
In essence, movies are "mirrors of life", reflecting certain aspects of social life, so that we can better understand society and ourselves. Slumdog Millionaire" reflects the social life in India at that time, the gap between the rich and the poor, the class conflict, the poor in the garbage heap, the corrupt police, and the orphans who grow up in such a situation, which triggers the thought of human nature.
The movie opens with a young street kid in Mumbai being interrogated and tortured by the Indian police because Jamal participated in an Indian version of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire program, and for his back-to-back victories, he was taken away by the police after someone exposed him as a cheater. After being tortured by the police, Jamal denies that he cheated and goes on to explain why he knows the answers to the questions, and so the scene unfolds for Jamal as it unfolds for us.
That a waiter from the slums could avoid the host's misdirection to get the top prize is truly mind-boggling. And Jamal is able to know the answers to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire because the questions are set up in a way that cleverly ties in with the experiences Jamal has lived through. For Jamal, he would have preferred that he didn't know the answers to these questions and would have preferred that he had never experienced them. The movie shows us a glimpse of Jamal's experiences through his calm narration, and each clip has the feel of a slow study, as each of its scenes has the power to move one to the edge of one's seat.
Jamal's mother was killed in a robbery and met Latika along with her brother, and the same experience makes Jamal and Latika good friends without words and promises Latika that he will take her to dance in a moonlit square. The three homeless children are taken in by a shelter and beg daily for a living, but the head of the orphanage wants to blind them to increase their begging income. So Sharim escapes with his brother and Latika, but while climbing a train, Latika accidentally loses her footing and is recaptured again. The brothers take up temporary residence near the Taj Mahal, where Jamal earns a living as a tour guide, while Sharim makes a living by stealing people's belongings as he does with the street thugs.
Jamal grows distant from Latika, but his thoughts of her do not diminish and he eventually convinces his brother to go back together to find Latika. After going back, though he meets Latika, he is spotted by the gangster Maman, and in order to escape, his brother shoots the gangster and turns to Javed, the rival of the beggar gangster, and leaves Latika behind while ousting his brother. Jamal and Latika are estranged again. So, Jamal thought of coming to this contest, he doesn't care about winning or not winning, what he knows is that Latika loves the show so much that he will definitely see him on TV.
When it came to the last question, "Name the three musketeers", Jamal didn't know the answer, so he called Sharim for help, but Latika answered the phone, and unfortunately Latika didn't know the answer to the question, so Jamal guessed the answer, and luckily he got it right. Luckily, he got it right. And at this point Sharim comes to his senses and gives Latika the keys to the truck so that Latika can go to Jamal and die with the gangster for both their happiness. The ending is a happy one as Jamal and Latika meet at the railway station and the lovers are happy.
In this piece of the movie, we can clearly see that Jamal is an infatuated, kind-hearted person and in his heart, love comes first. He has no ill will towards Latika and his feelings for her are pure. Sharim, on the other hand, is a very different person from his brother and is able to show unbridled ferocity by shooting a gangster as a teenager. But in fact, Sharim's feelings for his brother were genuine, betraying the gangster to let Latika go for the sake of his brother's feelings, and in order to fulfill his brother, he sacrificed his own life to remove an obstacle for his brother, and died with Javed.
Of course, the adoration and enthusiasm of the general public for Jamal as he carries on with the last question reflects the ignorance of the underclass, the lack of knowledge, the scarcity of the spiritual world, but also the desire for a better world.
Jamal's persistence from the beginning we can feel, in order to see their favorite star, jumped into the cesspit, successfully asked for an autograph; when his brother left Latika brother angrily pushed to the brother, after finding Latika, the brother will force him to go away, and then meet again Jamal's big fight against his brother, can be seen in the bravery and integrity of Jamal, and perhaps this is the film wants to bring us, although the Maybe this is what the movie wants to bring us, although born in the slums but the spirit will not be poor.
