Minqin Ancient City is a cultural relic protection unit in Gansu Province.
Minqin Ancient City is located in the desert about 5 kilometers west of Beixin Village, Dadan Township, Minqin County. It was first built in the Han Dynasty and was used in the Tang, Song (Western Xia), Yuan and Ming dynasties. It is square in shape with a side length of 120 meters. An urn city is built in the middle of the south wall. The urn city gate faces east, 22 meters long from east to west and 12 meters wide from north to south. The ruins are about 5 meters high, with one corner pier on each side and three side piers on the east, north and west sides. There is a remaining mound 14 meters away from the city in the northeast of the city. It is 6 meters high and the rammed earth layer is 0.14 meters thick. It is built with adobe.
The cultural layer of the site is 4 meters thick and has rich connotations. The exposed relics include: gray pottery shards, five-baht coins, stone inkstones, stone mills, residual bricks, Kaiyuan coins, fragments of copper and ironware, fragments of Tang Sancai, and pea green and black glazed porcelain fragments. An arsenal was found in the northeast corner of the city, with a large amount of armor fragments accumulated; a granary in the northwest corner was filled with rotten grain powder. Scattered around the city are a large number of broken bricks and tiles, various ceramic pieces, armor fragments, copper arrowheads and several tombs.
