Many Hollywood movie stars have studied at Yale University, which shows the charm of Yale School of Drama.

Yale School of Drama majors include Acting, Design (Stage Design, Costume Design, and Lighting Design), Directing, Dramatic Practice, Drama Criticism, Playwriting, Stage Management, Auditory Design, Craft Design and Production, and Theatre Management (which is closely associated with Yale's School of Management). Students must hold a college degree and complete all three years of college coursework with outstanding grades before applying for the M.F.A. degree.

The Yale Drama Coalition (The Yale Drama Coalition): supports student productions of more than 20 self-directed works each year. Supported primarily by the Sudler Fund at each residential college, it provides up to $1,000 per play.

Yale's improvisational comedy groups include The Viola Question, Just Add Water, the Purple Crayon, and the Exit Players.

The Yale Undergraduate Musical Theater Company (YUMTC ) produces 1-2 musicals per year.
