Chengdu University is neither a 985 nor a 211 university. The original name of Chengdu University was Chengdu College, a local institution of higher learning under the jurisdiction of the city of Chengdu.
It is important to realize that there are now more than 3,000 institutions of higher learning in the country, while there are only 39 985 universities and only 100 211 universities. Therefore, as a local general institution of higher education, it is very, very difficult to cross into the ranks of 985 or 211 universities.
