Yingtan, Jiangxi Province, under the jurisdiction of the city (prefecture-level), "ripples swirling therein, eagle dance on it" and get the name of the city, is an important member of the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River; located in the Wuyi mountain range to the transition of the Poyang Lake Pingyuan transition of the intersection of the zone, the jurisdiction of the subtropical wet monsoon climate; jurisdiction of the 2 districts and 1 city, with a total area of 3,556.7 square kilometers; in 2017 the resident population of 1,167,500 people.

Yingtan has become an important base of ceramics production in China as early as in the middle and late Shang Dynasty, from the 16th to the 11th centuries B.C.E. (the excavation of the Kakushan Kiln Site Complex in Tongjia Town, Yuehu District, had caused a great repercussion in China's archaeological circles).
Before the Western Zhou Dynasty, the city belonged to the domain of Yangzhou in "Shangshu - Yugong"; in the Spring and Autumn, it was the land of the Hundred Yue; in the Warring States period, it belonged first to the Yue and then to the Chu, and then to the Jiujiang County in the Qin Dynasty. From the Western Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Yuhan County (present-day Yugan County) (in the middle of which it was once transferred to the jurisdiction of Jinxing County), and was called Yingtanfang in the Tang Dynasty.
Tang Yongtai first year (765) set Guixi County, Yingtan for Guixi County jurisdiction. Ming Wanli early in Yingtan set up inspection division, Qing Qianlong thirty years (1765) in Yingtan set up the Division, Tongzhi three years (1864) changed to set up Yingtan Town, until 1956.
January 1957 was upgraded to the Shangrao area under the jurisdiction of the county town, in April 1958 and downgraded to the Guixi jurisdiction of the county town; July 1960 was again upgraded to the Shangrao area county town, approved by the State Council in March 1979 was upgraded to the Shangrao area under the jurisdiction of the county-level Eagle Lake City.
July 1983 by the State Council approved the upgrading of provincial municipalities, the original county-level Yingtan City area into the municipal jurisdiction of the Yuehu District, while jurisdiction Guixi County (1996 county as a city), Yujiang County.
