I think there are some characters in anime who are usually a bit of a jerk, but when they get serious, they're afraid of themselves. Here are a few anime characters that are great in a pinch:
"The Governess" Tsunayoshi Sawada
The character is known as "Tsunayoshi" by his classmates because of his failures in school and sports. He is a descendant of the first generation of Pangolin, the original leader of the first generation of Pangolin, who traveled to Japan, and was chosen by his family to be the successor to the 10th generation of leaders. At first, he is weak and tries to run away from everything, but he values friendship so much that he fights against all odds when his friends are in crisis.
No Ryojin Nocturne

Usually, he's lazy and uninhibited. He likes to play with small steel balls and watch high jumps. However, when it comes down to it, he never forgets the poise and strength he shows. Gentle and considerate, Kan's air waves show his potential as a gentle father to his children. He used to get up in the middle of the night to cook for insomniacs. The omniscient house centered around him is a big, warm family. Swing Dance also has a darker side, and is accused of being a "swing dance duo" by Shichiro Tsuchikata and Sogo Okita. Very afraid of ghosts.
King of Thieves Luffy
Luffy is positive and optimistic. He doesn't sail for money, but to enjoy the adventure. When he was about to be beheaded on the guillotine in Roguetown, he wore a pleasant smile unlike any ordinary man, because he already had a sense of death. He is innocent, single-minded, and intensely curious about new things, especially machines and new weapons.
These four characters are the ones who usually seem to not care about anything, but are very powerful in critical moments. The above is just a personal opinion.
