Sleepless Nights in Paris: Lighting up the City's Night Economy with Culture and Art

With the transformation and development of cities, people are constantly adapting to the new customs and lifestyle changes in society. With the gradual fulfillment of their basic needs, they have begun to pursue the "spiritual food" of culture and art, and have transformed their experience and consumption patterns. The terms "urban space reactivation", "urban renewal", "night-time economy", "art culture and tourism" and so on began to appear frequently. Words such as "urban space reactivation", "urban renewal", "night economy", "art cultural tourism" and so on began to appear frequently, triggering the industry to think about exploration and experimentation. How to use art to create a vital place or even a city?

Nuitblanche literally means "white night" in French, but the real meaning is "sleepless night", and LaNuitBlanche is a nighttime art festival that has been held annually since 2002. Since 2002, LaNuitBlanche is a nocturnal art festival that takes place in Paris on the first Saturday of October. The aim is to present Paris in a new and unique way; each year, the choreographer and the location of La Nuit Blanche vary.

Each year, nearly 80,000 free performances take place on this night at major attractions and on Parisian street corners, such as the Paris Tower and the Musée de l'Orangerie. The event has become so popular with locals and tourists that Daylight Night has become one of the must-see local events in Paris in the fall.

The main idea of Sleepless Nights in Paris is to bring art out of the galleries and museums and back into the city, so that everyone can feel it and appreciate it. Sleepless Night in the City is actually like a festival of art and culture, where the Paris government invites a number of international artists to use music, video, light, installation art and other means to create the urban space and streets of Paris at night. Artists from five continents will draw on the inherent patterns of the entire city of Paris, taking materials from the ground, adding or subtracting them, and presenting outdoor art exhibitions with both sound and light effects and interactivity. Every sleepless night, public **** spaces throughout Paris will be adorned with avant-garde art installations.

The theme of Sleepless Nights 2019 is LeMovement - Movement. The 18th NuitBlanche in Paris officially begins on October 5 at 7 p.m., and the event will continue until the following day, around 7 a.m. on Sunday. During this time, Paris' public **** transportation will also be in full cooperation, with the metro running overnight and more frequent buses.

Sleepless Nights Paris 2019 has invited artistic director Didier Fusillier and artistic advisor Jean-Max Colard to organize and curate the event. With an investment of 1.5 million euros, this year's edition of Sleepless Nights is ahead of its time, with the event expanding to the Change of City line and then to several cities in the greater Paris area.

On this day every year, many well-known attractions in the city of Paris or little-known places open all night, the people of Paris out of their homes, sleepless all night, full of energy, with unlimited expectations and full of joy to all parts of the city, in the "color, aroma, taste" complete, visual, tactile, gustatory, The city is full of "color, aroma and taste", and the senses of sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing will be delighted.

The 2019 program is divided into four main sections, as well as other subsections throughout the city. In addition to the four official "selected" programs, there will also be "extras" and a myriad of individual creations and informal events, resulting in a rich "White Nights Culture" across 20 Parisian districts, with a wide range of contents and styles. A rich "menu" of "culture" for Parisians and tourists of all kinds to "order and enjoy" all night long according to their tastes. Every year, between 700,000 and 800,000 people become "nocturnal wanderers" on this one night.

From the Place de la Concorde to the Place de la Bastille, there is an artistic parade of artists, musicians, singers, bands, DJs and dancers. Upon arrival at the Bastille there is a performance by the pyrotechnic art group GroupeF.

About 15 art platforms in the form of floats, each one a large art installation designed by modern artists and surrounded by dancers and musicians singing and dancing. The musicians and bands came from the city of Paris, the greater Paris area and countries around the world; the artists who participated in the design of the art platforms were of different ages and came from different schools of thought, and their designs were full of whimsy and experimentation, and were large-scale, fantastical and poetic works of art, which turned the parade into a mobile, open-air exhibition, with the renowned French artist Daniel Buren (Daniel Buren) as a representative of the major figures of Extremism. Daniel Buren, the famous French artist and important representative of Extremism, will also participate in the event.

The artists of Sleepless Nights in Paris will stroll around Parisian street corners that night. Some will lead the audience through the Parisian night, such as Spanish artist Pilar Albarracín in flamenco dance costumes. Others will be solitaries walking on their own, and strolling artists will be performing some interactive performances to engage with the audience.

Daylight Night's 10K Museum Art Jog for 10,000. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on October 5, the City of Paris has partnered with adidas to organize an unprecedented 10,000-person museum jog, where you can pre-register for two 10-kilometer jogging routes through seven classic Parisian museums and historical monuments, imagining running up to the fifth floor of the Centre Georges Pompidou, reenacting a Bertolucci film The Dreamers, and walking through the museums of Paris. Imagine running on the fifth floor of the Pompidou Center, reenacting the corridors of the Louvre from Bertolucci's The Dreamers movie, and admiring Picasso's artworks and the splendor of the galleries as you go.

Experience a bike ride on the highway. From PortedelaVillette to PortedePantin, a small section of the Paris Ring Road is closed to cars from 7pm until 6am the next morning. It will be planned as a bicycle racing track, and there will also be a pedestrian zone where light and sound shows can be enjoyed freely, allowing pedestrians and bicycles to have fun.

Look up at the vast starry sky at night and marvel at the immensity of the universe. The most appropriate activity for a sleepless night - "ParcMontsouris under the stars" organized by the French Astronomical Society (AssociationFran?aised'Astronomie). A nighttime stargazing event. With the power of a telescope, you will be able to observe Jupiter and its moons, gaze at Saturn and its rings, and admire the different phases of the moon and its craters. In addition, you will learn how to locate the constellations and the stars that attract attention in the night sky.

The city-level festival is the brainchild of Bertrand Delano, who was elected Mayor of Paris in 2001, and has transformed the city with a series of innovative ideas to improve living conditions in Paris, such as reducing pollution and solving traffic jams.

During his tenure (2001-2014), Delano? made a number of very significant changes that are still visible in Paris today. Examples include the Paris City Bike Vélib', which is widely spread around the world's major cities, ParisPlages, the summer beach on the right bank of the Seine in Paris, and today's presentation of Sleepless Nights in Paris NuitBlanche.

Government support and promotion, as well as placing culture at the forefront of the city's management, are the main centers of the festival's smooth development and growing success. The insistence that all attractions, activities and overnight transportation are free of charge makes Nuit Blanche an artistic initiative free of any commercial manipulation and an opportunity for as many people as possible to get closer to contemporary art.

Each year, a different style of artistic director is hired to control the overall situation, determine the theme, select artists and participants, and "lead" the smooth running of the whole event, so that the audience can appreciate from a different point of view a different aspect of the city where they have been used to living, living or working, and to pursue the surprise and beauty of unexpected encounters. The event was a great success.

The content is not only tailored to the local context, integrating the original characteristics and culture of the city streets, linking to major landmarks (such as museums, art galleries, historical buildings, etc.), but also open to cooperation with brands. In addition to a variety of forms of expression, the content is also very broad, ranging from large-scale urban development issues, environmental issues, technological development (people and AI), etc., to small-scale experience of children's fun, relaxation and enjoyment, community interaction.

Because it is a city-level arts and culture festival, the team has considered the different needs of all ages. At the same time, through the creation of contemporary art, the "nightlife", which has traditionally been a personal and even private sphere, is transformed into a large-scale collective art experience, so that citizens can freely occupy their familiar or unfamiliar urban spaces in one night, and enjoy watching, communicating, wandering, contemplating, and entertaining themselves at will. The ubiquitous experience of art and culture will change the stereotypes and misunderstandings of the crowd. "To make peace with the city, the night and art" is probably the main idea of the "White Night of Culture" in Paris.
