Episode 1
Ted tells the kids the story of their mom and dad's romance, and it's going to be a long one.
The story stems from 2005, when Ted was 27 years old and was starting life as an architect, and all was well until Matthew was getting married. Depressed, Ted and Barney go to a bar, meet the girl of their dreams, Robin, and ask her out. Matthew proposes to Lily successfully, but hits Lily in the eye with a champagne cottage. Tad tells Matthew and the gang about his date, failing to kiss, and the crowd encourages him to be brave and confess his love for the girl. Tad then rushes to Robin's house, and to music and dancing, Tad says, "I love you!" , not only shocking himself, but Robin as well. Robin sends Tad away more than once, and Tad reveals that he's not cut out to be single, that he'd make a good husband and father, and the two shake hands, with Tad failing to understand Robin's implication - that he should Kiss her. So while at the bar, Matthew and his entourage sigh for him. Later Robin became Aunt Robin to Ted's children.
Episode 2
Ted falls in love with Robin, sees Lily and Robin chatting at the bar, and pursues Robin to ask what she has said about him, and Lily says that Robin thinks that Ted is too serious and that she just needs to be casual. Tad decides to throw a party in order to chase Robin. After Matthew proposes to Lily, Lily is filled with desire, but Matthew is busy with his dissertation. Tad saw Robin on the live news and chased after her, pretending to casually stumble upon her and casually invited her to a party next week, which Robin changed to tonight when she said she had to go home. Matthew and the guys think Tad should face reality as Robin and the guy go up on the roof. Ted doesn't want to give up and remembers the little boy trapped in the slot machine, Ted gets up the courage to go to the roof and confess his love to Robin but Robin doesn't want to get married or hurt him, Ted thinks he can get used to her and the two Kiss but they can't and in the end they agree to be good friends. And Robin tries to help Ted find his other half.
Episode 3
Lily and Robin hit the bars, Lily gets cold feet and Robin is a big hit with the guys. Barney LaTide talks about experiencing a legendary moment: pretending to be an international businessman airport picking up MM. learning that the beautiful Laura is going to Philadelphia, the two also get on a plane to Philadelphia. Matthew is sullenly doing his homework when he gets a call from Ted inviting him to drive to Philadelphia. Lily complains to Matthew that she doesn't get hit on by men, and Matthew encourages her to take off her engagement ring and have a man hit on her. Tad and Barney are on an airplane, ditching MM all over the place, and Tad tells Matthew not to come to Philadelphia. But soon Matthew returns to the car to go to Philadelphia: Ted and Barney are arrested off the plane by the police. After the truth comes out, Tad tells Matthew he can go, and Barney says he's going to police Sarah's party, so Matthew turns back. Lily takes off her ring and when a man finally hits on her, it's to tell her to sit on the grapes. Matthew calls Lily, and Robin answers, saying that Lily is hitting on a man, and Matthew says he doesn't mind on the surface, but is a jealous man. Episode 4

Barney and Robin bet $1,000 on the Icky Dance, and when the coachman thanks Robin for giving him the chance to tell his life story on TV, Robin realizes the importance of her job, but unfortunately she falls in horse shit.
Ted asks Natalie out and is opening his mouth to break up when he realizes that it's Natalie's birthday, and after a struggle, Ted says break up anyway, and ends up getting beaten up. But a year later, Natalie got married and became a mom of 3.
Episode 5
Robin invites Ted's gang to Club Okay. When her coworker's elegant life spurs Lily on, determined to turn from the rough life to the elegant one, and planning a wine tasting party at home, Robin doesn't invite them. However, the economic-style wine tasting bores Matthew to tears, and when Ted realizes that the club is just a noisy, trashy place and wants to leave, Matthew escapes to the club. Lily tracks him down and meets Robin, who has been turned away at the door, and they later manage to get inside. Barney is horribly disappointed with the club after realizing that the person he picked up was his cousin Leslie. Lily sees a hot dancing Matthew and thinks Robin's words are right, "Why did you turn into this type of person?" Lily decided to be herself. The two danced a big hot dance.
Matthew grumbles slightly at Ted for inviting himself and feels that the friendship has changed since the engagement, but the two still understand each other.
Episode 6
The group talk about the upcoming Halloween and Ted remembers the slutty pumpkin girl from four years ago and dreams of seeing her again. For Halloween, Lily and Matthew dress up and try to win the best costume award. Tad hangs up his voting card for the roof party, and Barney goes, too. Robin and Lily had dinner with them, as well as their new boyfriend, Mike. At the table, Robin is cold to Mike's gestures of intimacy, and Lily teaches Robin to be more passionate with Mike and suggests starting with sharing dessert, which Robin botches, resulting in a breakup. Barney kept lobbying Ted to go to the Victoria's Secret party, but Ted stuck to the roof of the building, waiting to meet Pumpkin Girl, who never showed up.
On the floor, Robin and Ted are in the same boat, snuggled up on the cold roof.
Episode 7
Lily and Matthew are shocked when they tell Ted's group at the pub about the unidentified creature in the house. Robin's reports on the "Singles' End" matchmaking company, Barney tricks Ted into signing up and gets himself kicked out, and matchmaker Ellen promises to find Ted a life partner in three days. Lily and Matthew are panicked by the "roach rats" and tell the crowd, but they don't believe them. As the days pass, Tad goes to Alan and learns that the only woman he's ever been paired with, Sara, has already been paired with him. Ted obtains the Sayo file and approaches Sara at her clinic, pretending to be a patient. When he asks her out, Sara says she's getting married, and Ted says he'll call him if she changes her mind. Soon after, Ted gets a call from Sara, who informs him that he has a skin disease, but Ted gets agitated and asks why he's not with someone who's paired with 95, and Sara tells him "love isn't a science, you can't count feelings."
Ted is disillusioned and goes to see Ellen to get his money back, who is devastated that she has found a match for Ted. Unable to bear it, Ted encourages her to pull herself together and find someone to pair up with him.
Episode 8
Lily's apartment is being torn down to make way for a Chinese restaurant and Ted suggests that she could move in with him and Matthew, which Barney thinks is stupid. When Lily and Matthew get married, someone will have to move out of the apartment, but it's clear that no one wants to move out. Barney is playing tricks to pick up girls again and is molested by Robin. After Lily moves in, Tad finds himself tossed aside by them and his favorite old coffee pot is thrown away. Robin suggests that Tad should communicate with Matthew, while Barney is unimpressed. Ted buys a phone booth to set up in the apartment, which inflames the conflict over who owns the apartment, and the two men fight with the sword that symbolizes their friendship, with Matthew tragically stabbing Lily.
Robin sarcastically comments on Barney's shitty pick-up tactics, and Barney provokes her into daring Glasses Guy to go on a date. On the date, Glasses Guy thinks Robin is playing him, and Robin says she won't leave, but Lily is in the hospital and she has to go. Glasses Guy misunderstands and Robin can't explain and just leaves. At the hospital, Tad and Matthew reconcile and decide to let Matthew have the apartment, which Lily refuses. At the Chinese restaurant, they toast to their friendship.
