Emil Wakin Chau (周華健) was born on December 22, 1960 in Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong, and is originally from Chaonan District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province, China. He is a Taiwanese pop male singer, musician, and actor, and graduated from National Taiwan University.
Entered the acting industry in 1984 with his solo single "Who Ever Said", joined Rolling Stone Records in 1986, gained attention with his album "Direction of the Heart" in 1987, and acted in his movie debut "Gui Hua Lane" in the same year.

Chou Hua Jian is the fourth in his family. He has three older brothers, Chow Wang Kin , Chow Wai Kin and Chow Ho Kin, in addition to a younger sister.
In 1985, he met Konchiran at a folk song restaurant where he sang. Konchiran is an American with a double degree in Spanish literature and art.
