Winter Olympic figure skating program competition rules

Figure SkatingThe competition consists of two parts: men's and women's singles skating and pairs skating for the short program and free skating, respectively; and ice dancing for the rhythmic dance and free dance. Both the short program and the rhythmic dance have prescribed movements.

The skaters skate on the ice in various patterns and perform various tricks and dance moves to music. The judges score each stage of the contestant's performance according to the technical score and program content, and the sum of the total score of each stage is the final score to determine the final ranking.

Determination of Results for Each Part of the Figure Skating Competition

1. The total program score for each competitor in each part of the competition (Short Program and Free Skating) is calculated by adding the total technical score and the program content score and subtracting any program deductions.

2. The Athlete with the highest total program score is placed first, the Athlete with the next highest score is placed second, and so on.

3. If two or more athletes have the same score, then the one with the highest total technical score in the short program is ranked first; the one with the highest program content score in the free skate is ranked first; if the total technical score. Program Content Score is also the same, then the competitors' scores are tied.
