People's traditional, customary concept, "lumbar pain of lumbar synostosis is caused by a herniated disc compressing the nerves", the patient through surgical treatment, the removal of the protruding portion of the disc, lumbar pain also disappeared. However, in the actual clinical work, these patients after surgery and then do CT, MR examination review, the herniated disc is still protruding. In some patients with bulging discs, the CT and MR examinations showed no compression of the nerves, but they had the same clinical symptoms of low back and leg pain as the herniated discs. Patients who have had surgery to remove the herniated disc may have the same symptoms of low back pain as before the surgery, even though the herniated disc was removed. Patients with lumbar herniation who have undergone CT-guided pharmacologic interventions have eliminated their low back pain, but the herniated disc remains unchanged on imaging.
