Namco, located in central Xizang Autonomous Region, is the second largest lake in Tibet and the third largest saltwater lake in China. The elevation of the lake is 4718m, which is approximately rectangular, with a length of more than 70km from east to west and a width of more than 30km from north to south, with an area of1920km2.
Early scientific investigation thought that the maximum depth of Namco was 33 meters, but in recent two years, it was found that the maximum depth of Namco exceeded 120 meters. With a storage capacity of 76.8 billion cubic meters, it is the largest lake with the highest altitude in the world.
