Not to mention the data: the series of QQ expressions launched by Baozou Comics can almost reach hundreds of billions of times sent; "Baozou Events" a single issue of the amount of broadcasting in Youku a platform of nearly 20 million times. Why is the cartoon so hot?
PingWest asked Nima Wang, who has never taken off his headgear, what he had to say.
PingWest PinYang: How was "Wang Nima" born?
Wang Nima: My headgear actually comes from our original cartoon image. In the early days, the image of the Riot Comics image was more popular with the fans, and when we were creating the big event, we wanted the main character of the anime, Wang Nima, to host the program, which is a real-life hotspot trolling program, and we thought about which image would ultimately represent the Riot brand, and after some deliberation, I picked the dorkiest and most inarticulate image designed at the time to be my head. I've been labeled as such ever since, and am also known as Wang Nima (a name that also stems from the name of the character's protagonist when we were making the comic).
PingWest Pinoy: Why do we never see Wang Nima behind the hood?
Wang Nima: Because I never wear stockings, and stockings have crotches ......
PingWest PinYou: does Wang Nima wear a hood when he's not in front of the camera?
Wang Nima: you can open your brain to imagine: when I eat, cut a hole in the stockings, with a spoon, from outside the headgear, through the mouth of that hole, to the headgear in a bite into the food. Then ...... actually fed into my nostrils
PingWest PinYou: you are the Wang Nima generation?
Wang Nima: you must be wondering how many headgear I have changed ...... on this one headgear, this world is a me, playing all over the world invincible talkshow stage, finally defending the King of Comedy, wear it can smell how much sweat I have flowed for this.
PingWest PinYou: Wang Nima's real life voice is the same as in the program?
Wang Nima: Yes, in character, in real life I'm the same person who will die if I don't spit.
PingWest: What's life like for Wang Nima after he failed to lose weight?
Wang Nima: It's business as usual. My figure is like this: today I gained 2 kilograms, tomorrow I can lose 3 kilograms. For this reason, I feel that it is unfair to myself, or eat something good to make up for it. The day after tomorrow, I gained 4 pounds. As with everyone else, it's only when you're full that you have the strength to lose! I said I wanted to lose weight at that time, but now I don't want to, I think my own features are very important. My face thin become handsome you still love me (although you can not see)? Do you still love me when my stomach is slimmer and fitter? The furthest distance in the world must be: you stand in front of my belly but you can't recognize it's me.
PingWest PinYou: What are the jobs of Zhang Quan egg and Tang Malu? How did they get pushed to the front of the stage, was it because they couldn't afford to hire actors?
Wang Nyima: Yes, prices are so high now and filming costs are so high. So, Full Egg and Maru, are our employees ah la la la la. Isn't this good? Don't we all love such little friends? Who says an actor has to be good looking? Being good in every aspect doesn't help. A man's value is his talent. Ha ha.
PingWest PinYou: How do you come up with the topics for each episode of "Riot"?
Wang Nyima: The selection of topics for the big event are discussed by the writers in a meeting, and it's not really anyone's will. We all need to follow the first-hand news material online every day and at all times, and the writers need to discuss what's worth tweeting about and what suits the style of the storm, and I'll be involved in my opinions, but I won't dominate everyone. We have any comments, put forward on the spot, from the beginning of the preparation of material, until the completion of the filming, at any time to add or subtract content, there are also selections have been filmed and completed, do not think it is appropriate for the appropriate set of style was forced to cancel. This way down this show with so many people's wisdom, you can meet as many as possible to meet a variety of tastes.
PingWest PinYou: Is the show simply a flirtation or do you want to generate meaning behind the flirtation?
Wang Nyima: fans should be able to feel the most fundamental meaning of our program, trolling must have a point of view, an appeal, an interaction, and even a result. Big to square dance issues, food safety issues, gay marriage issues, porcelain problems, star drug use, universal stock speculation and other such social issues, small to discuss the popular microblogging, the latest showbiz gossip, anecdotes, etc., but in the final analysis, we choose materials only one principle - the user cares about and may care about the interesting issues; and flirting with the There is only one principle - the audience can see but can not think, serious thinking and can laugh. Therefore, we hope to convey to the viewers of "Baozou Da Event" the concept of "happy news", entertainment accompanied by the process of thinking experience. (Of course, we really hope that the government can see our work and the issues we raise, and look at them with a witty eye and solve them with a serious approach.)
PingWest PinYou: From cartoons to animation to video, what has changed and what hasn't changed for Baozou Comics?
Wang Nima: storming from static to produce dynamic works, are just the product of the form of expression has changed, storming comics (has been) conveyed to the user is the concept of the brand: sharp, blunt, humorous, outspoken.
PingWest PinYang: Is what Baozou produces a "fast-moving culture"? Are you worried about being forgotten by the public at any time?
Wang Nyima: Not really. There are a lot of FMCG products in our lives, and people think that FMCG products are consumed quickly, so they are needed quickly. You run out of a roll of paper towels, you will definitely go back to buy again, but even when you are choosing paper towels, you will consider your preferences and tastes. The Internet FMCG is the same, after the fast consumption, the Internet users still need. Then you set in stone or no longer progress, will inevitably be eliminated from time to time. Riot was established in 2008, high-speed development in 2011, steady development in every year after that, not without each member of our team to chase the perfect, the pursuit of innovation (speaking of which, you must think I'm so old-fashioned). But from the development of print comics to video, and then to the movie, these leaps and attempts can not be accomplished without this kind of courage and hard work. But we know that as long as we have this kind of courage and dedication, we will grow with our fans and evolve with the times, which is probably practicing the principle of "keeping up with the times".
PingWest PinYou: How big is the brain of the group of people who drew the QQ emoji? You cite a chestnut.
Wang Nima: The people who drew the mob emoji are our art design department, but it's not really that mysterious. We design obscure images and then call for everyone to come and see them, but society doesn't actually recognize it at first. What really turned it into something magical were the people who drew the Mob Comics, and with our Mob Comic Maker, plus the tens of thousands of daily submissions so far, it was something that I couldn't even think of when I developed the maker. It's with these living, breathing stories that emojis truly exist. Thank you to our fans, the brains you all contribute are our foundation.
PingWest PinYang: "Kids don't want to watch riot comics", so how many kids are there in the riot comics' fan base?
Wang Nyima: There's no need to dig deeper into this sentence, it's a tongue-in-cheek remark. People who say smoking is bad for your health may not be non-smokers. This sentence to put it bluntly, is to read the big event of the user IQ and emotional intelligence is relatively mature, know rational thinking. In fact, most of our viewers are college students to white-collar workers within the age of 30. We all know each other, and have formed a clear audience system.
PingWest: What do you think about the "new" video culture?
Wang Nima: New video, I don't understand. I think it may be the so-called PGC network self-produced drama. Now more common "100,000 cold jokes", "never thought", "care gossip" and "stormy events" are in this category. Say we are professional, and can not catch up with the cinema movies and TV series; say we are not professional, (we) and than the general non-professionals do a lot of professional content. Say we don't have continuity, we're self-contained series that are updated regularly; say we're a serialized genre, but we're free, not so much bound by policies and episode times. This kind of program is generally a network of self-produced drama form, the scale is larger than traditional media, style is more free, the user to watch more convenient, more close to the life of the material, these are self-evident; of course, the shortcomings of you feel that there are, and you feel that there is nothing wrong. Because this is the product of this high-speed development of the information age, the Internet needs such programs to meet the netizens of the diversity of culture, information, information needs.
PingWest: Tell us about the company's current situation.
Wang Nyima: The team is currently located in Xi'an, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu and Xiamen. Xi'an is the leading city in culture and manpower, so the editors, scriptwriters and operators are concentrated in Xi'an; Shenzhen has more creative and cultural resources, so our filming is concentrated in Shenzhen; Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing are more technical, so the programmers are mostly concentrated in these three cities; Chengdu is a big city for games, and has abundant game resources, so the game development team is in Chengdu; and in Xiamen, it's the art and design department.
PingWest: What kind of people do you work with?
Wang Nima: This is a very common question. People want us to reveal our secrets, so for the last special episode of the third season of "Rampage," we exposed our team and our lives.
PingWest PinYang: Do you think Riot is a success?
Wang Nyima: Am I red? I'm not a big fan of the cartoon, I'm not a big fan of the cartoon. I'm not sure if I'm a success, but I think I'm a great success. ?......... I was downstairs in the yard of my house yesterday, and asked the square-dancing amazons, "Auntie, do you watch the storm?" They said, "Nima, are you kidding me? What the hell are you talking about?" Me: ......? I guess my popularity is still too low, keep trying again.
PingWest Pinoy: I hear you'll also be doing movies and games in the future? How exactly are you going to do that?
Wang Nima: It's still a secret for now, but what we can reveal is that what's coming out next year should be a live-action movie, in which you'll find the shadow of "Riot". Of course, there is more than one movie, and you can continue to look forward to it after that, but it must be a step-by-step footstep, one better than the other.
