The Night of the Military Harbor is written by Ma Jinxing, composed by Liu Shizao, and sung by Su Xiaoming, with the following lyrics:
The night of the military harbor is quiet, and the waves rock the battleship gently.
Young sailors rest their heads on the waves and smile sweetly in their sleep.
Sea breeze you gently blow, waves you gently shake.
How hard the sailors who sailed far away returned to the embrace of the motherland.
Let our sailors sleep well, the night of the military harbor ah quiet.
The waves of the sea rocked the battleship gently, and the young sailors rested their heads on the waves.
Sleeping with a sweet smile, the sea breeze you gently blow.
The waves of the sea you gently rocked, how hard the sailors of the voyage.
Before the sun rises and the sea is red, look at our battleship anchoring again.
Background of the composition
At the end of September 1980, the Rising Stars Concert was held in Beijing, and the Haijing Song and Dance Troupe decided to send Su Xiaoming to represent the troupe to participate in the performance. At that time, Su Xiaoming prepared a foreign song, and the leaders thought it was inappropriate to sing such a song on such an occasion, so they asked lyricist Ma Jinxing and composer Liu Shizhao to write a new song with naval characteristics according to Su Xiaoming's voice conditions.
Ma Jinxing and Liu Shizao, who were given the task, wrote the song "Night in the Military Harbor", which was premiered by Su Xiaoming at the Rising Stars Concert. Accompanying them was the Hai Zheng Light Music Ensemble, who also boldly reformed to bring the drum kit to the stage. This is said to be the first time the drums have been brought to the stage in mainland China since the reform and opening up.
Su Xiaoming's debut performance of "Night in the Military Harbor" at the Rising Stars Concert received unanimous praise from the audience, and Su Xiaoming became famous for the song, becoming an idol of young people, singing the song in the streets and alleys, and the song "Night in the Military Harbor" has quickly spread to the present day.
