A Brief Introduction to The Story of the Blue Flower

Blue Flower Ballad is a traditional folk song popular in Shaanxi and parts of Qinghai, Gansu and Shanxi. Lanhuahua, according to folklore, is a woman from a village in Linzhen Town, Gulin County, Shaanxi Province. She is beautiful and eager for happiness, but she is forced to marry a landlord named Zhou, "Monkey Lao Zi".

Unwilling to be oppressed by feudal forces, Lan Huahua wanted her "love brother" and dared to declare that "we will live and die together". Folk songs not only castigate the destruction and persecution of women by feudal buying and selling marriage, but also praise Lanhuahua's rebellious spirit of bravely breaking through feudal ethics and boldly pursuing marriage autonomy.

According to the development process of the story, the expanded materials divide the music into five parts: introduction, blue flower, embrace into Zhou family, escape and ending.

It shows Lanhuahua's strong character of bravely resisting feudal forces by shaping a typical image of a beautiful, kind, innocent and simple rural girl and her unfortunate experience in love. The work draws lessons from the musical structure of Chinese and western sonatas, and combines some performance characteristics of China opera music, which has a strong artistic appeal.

Among them, the "introduction" is used to open the curtain of the story and play a transitional role; "Postscript" is used to reproduce the theme and further express the nostalgia for blue and white flowers and the hatred for feudal ethics in the old society. These two parts are not long enough to be repeated in the analysis. The three parts of "blue flowers and good flowers", "bringing into Zhou family" and "fleeing" are the main plots described in the ballad and the main contents of the analysis of the works.
