Singing Style of Pair of Flowers

A traditional ditty widely popular in the north of China. The singers compete in intelligence, teach knowledge, and entertain each other by asking questions and guessing the names of flowers. It is also sung in various forms, some accompanied by musical instruments, and some even accompanied by gongs and drums while dancing and singing. The songs are in the form of sectional songs, with twelve sections, each of which is sung for one month, with one section for questions and one section for answers, constantly overlapping, with the sentences tightening and the alternation becoming denser and the more enthusiastic the singing becomes. The basic lyrics of each section are only two lines, such as: "What flowers bloom in the first month?" Answer: "Spring flowers bloom in the first month." The following is a large part of the liner notes. There are "brother ah" and "sister ah" that refer to each other; there is the playful and amusing "get er ah"; there is the imitation of gongs and drums, "seven Lundong, eight no Longdong" and so on, which are very lively. Hebei, Shaanxi, Henan, Liaoning and other provinces have their own more typical tunes. In addition, the northeast, north China is also popular "against the flower", that is, in December to December up backwards to May, is also quite distinctive.
