First of all, from the repertoire, the traditional lantern plays, most of them are "three small" plays, which are mainly about the small student, the small dancer and the clown, and generally reflect the production and labor in the countryside, marriage and love, and family ethics and morals, and many of the plays, such as "Welcoming Spring", "Exploring the Dry Sisters", and "The Great Tea Mountain" etc. have strong Yunnan vernacular features, from the content of the plays to the singing lyrics and the dialogues. Many of the plays, such as "Welcoming Spring", "Exploring God Sister", "Big Tea Mountain" and so on, have strong Yunnan local characteristics from the content of the scripts to the lyrics and dialogues. Secondly, because the lanterns have long been widely popular in the vast Han Chinese settlements and Han Chinese and ethnic minorities areas in Yunnan Province, the differences in the dialects, customs, music and tunes of different places have formed many branches of the Yunnan lanterns. For example, Kunming lanterns, Yuxi lanterns, Chuxiong lanterns, Jianshui lanterns, etc. have their own characteristics. Kunming lanterns, retained more of the Ming and Qing dynasty songs; Yuxi lanterns have more plays; Chuxiong lanterns have more folk songs and ditties; Jianshui lanterns have absorbed some of the Yi ethnic group's things, from music to lyrics, Tao Bai. Thirdly, related to the second point, the sources of lantern music tunes are quite extensive. There are thousands of tunes collected since the foundation of China, but there are several cases: some of them are passed down from Ming and Qing Dynasties; a large number of them are folk songs; some of them are absorbed from Yunnan Yangqin, religious music and ethnic music; and some of them are transplanted from some kinds of dramas in brother provinces and cities. A variety of sources of tunes, once absorbed by the lanterns, due to its singing habits, the Run cavity method, combined with its dance, theater rhythms, Yunnan dialect speech, formed a combination of diversity and unity of the lantern music. Fourthly, the outstanding feature of the performance is singing and dancing. In the past, Yunnan people also called the lantern singing as "Wei Hua Lantern", and there was even the saying of "no Wei not lantern". It can be seen that "Fai" occupies an important position in the lantern dance. Of course, the same is Fai, raw, Dan, ugly are different, to Fai out of character traits. In addition to Fai, lantern dance also turn, jump, fan flower, hand towel, drum dance, dragon dance, whip, lantern dance and so on dozens of kinds.
