Background

Director Yang Jie asked Xu Jingqing to write a song for the king of the Daughter Kingdom after he finished filming that episode. Xu Jingqing remembers that the episode was "beautifully scripted, and the scene was beautifully shot, with small gardens, pavilions, willow trees, red leaves, and a pair of mandarin ducks wandering in the water, though on earth, like the gods".

Seeing such a scene, Xu Jingqing's mind naturally came up with a lot of wonderful notes. So the melody of the stanza "Ask the holy monk quietly if the daughter is beautiful" was the first to jump onto the paper. As he sang, he explained that the King of the Daughter Kingdom was trying to show herself to the Longevity Monk, and that the lyrics were not in an inquisitive tone, but rather she was telling the Longevity Monk with great certainty that she was very beautiful.

The emotional twist that follows is that the King of the Daughter Kingdom is showing her heart to the Longevity Monk, for whom she would throw away all her kingly power and wealth. Matching the lyrics, he took a six-degree leap in the arrangement.

A seemingly simple three-part piece took only a day and a half to complete. Director Yang Jie said on the other end of the phone, "Sing it." Xu Jingqing, who has a poor voice, hummed only three lines, and the director said, "It doesn't sound good." Xu Jingqing had to invite her to the studio the next day to hear the full version.

The next day, Yang Jie came, and once she heard the melody, she liked it very much. She felt that Wu Jing completely sang the emotion of the Daughter Kingdom King's tenderness and deep love for the Tang Monk. Because of Yang Jie's love for Daughter's Love, in the recording studio, she directly changed the original lyrics written by Yan Su. The overall meaning of the lyrics didn't change, but the wording was changed to be more delicate and more relevant.
