4. The Yarlung Tsangpo River Grand Canyon is the largest water vapor channel on the Tibetan Plateau. According to the conclusion of scientific research, the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is the Himalayan movement and the river's scouring formation. But in Lhoba mythology, it is a gap cut by the sky god.
In long ago ancient times, the Himalayas were connected, and the rivers of snowy Tibet all converged and accumulated in the north of the mountain, forming a great lake that flooded many villages and swept away many people. Lhoba people's ancestor Abadani very kind, he took the roc bird to fly to the sky to report this situation to the God of Heaven, and prayed that the God of Heaven can be blessed for the people to eliminate the disaster.
The Duke of Heaven was also annoyed when he heard that the river was unchecked and flowing wildly, endangering the people. So the God of Heaven made Abaddani the river god and sent him to rule the river.
Abadani initially ruled the water by covering it with earth and building embankments and dams, but ten years passed, and instead of being subdued, the flood waters collapsed the embankments and drowned more people. Seeing the repeated flooding of the river, the people cursed Abaddani for not doing his duty and for being incompetent.
Later, Abaddani changed his previous practice and used the method of opening canals and draining the river to divert the flood water to the sea. He ate, lived and labored with the people, often getting up in the morning with the stars on his head and resting only when the moon came up at night. It took Abaddani I*** forty years to cure the water, and he was so tired that his hair and beard turned white, and even his wife and children almost did not recognize him.
Just as Abaddani was about to accomplish his great feat of diverting the floodwaters to the sea, a water monster suddenly came out of the lake, spewing out water injections several feet high from its mouth in an attempt to stop people from coming to dredge the river.
Abadani rode a roc and fought with the people against the water monster. At last, the roc took advantage of the water monster and pecked out one of its eyes. The water monster, suffering from the pain, screamed and rolled on the ground, turning into a big ridge in the Himalayas.
Abadarni and the people dug and dug against the ridge, but strangely enough, the ridge was as hard as steel, and how to dig could not be dug. Abaddani had no choice but to report the situation on earth to the heavens.
The heavenly lord was angered by the behavior of the water monster, he gave Abadani a special axe, and sent twenty (the highest number in the minds of the ancient Lhoba people) gods and goddesses down to the earth, to help Abadani to dredge the waterway.
Abadani and the celestial gods desperately hacked a gap in the Himalayan ridge, which is now the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon. The lakes of the snowy region flowed through this channel to the sea. From then on, the snowy region was no longer flooded, and people lived a peaceful and happy life.
