robert burns (Robert Burns, 1759-1796) was Scotland's greatest
peasant poet of the 18th century. He came from a family of peasants. Due to poverty, he dropped out of the local school after only a few years, and later became self-taught. He read widely and was particularly interested in Scottish oral literature and folk songs. He later wrote poetry, often using current song tunes with new words, or taking ideas from
old folk songs to create new poems. He wrote some 350 songs in his lifetime, all of which are now treasures in the Scottish folk song archive. Few of his songs were published during his lifetime, but they are widely spoken.
The most famous of these is the auld lang syne, written in 1788, which has now spread to all corners of the world
. Especially in Europe and the United States, every holiday, every friend's party, every reunion
parting, everyone gathered in a circle will always sing this song, it has become a song of friendship.
