This gimmicky flick needs skill and a certain amount of humanity as a remedy, but "Unlucky in Love" has neither.
--Entertainment Weekly
It's certainly difficult to build confidence in this inherently flawed farce, which undermines all the romance and doesn't give the two stars playing the lovers a chance to give their characters characterization, which makes for an inexplicable pairing.
-- Film Comment
Set in Manhattan, Unlucky in Love is a "Cinderella" version of the popular frothy drama, and it feels like a contemporary offbeat romance ... ...but Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine are an attractive on-screen pairing that teens and 20-somethings will vote for.
-- The Hollywood Reporter
Though there are five screenwriters on the film, what's surprising is that the many minds that produced this movie are so empty. It would be nice to say that the movie is sparse, but it's actually a marshmallow: overstuffed with sweetness and empty calories, which, in addition to eroding teeth, also erodes the brain.
-- REEL Movie Review
The screenwriter can't break free to make the film humorous, and the actions of director Donald Pate and the cadre of actors are lackluster, with only Chris Pine showing a bit of charisma every now and then, and Lindsay Lohan showing some signs that she's really an actress. It may be a good movie, but it's by no means inviting.

Commentary
Twentieth Century Fox dared to release "Lucky Kiss" on the same day as Wolfgang Petersen's disaster hit "Poseidon," from the great director of "The Perfect Storm" and "Strike from the Bottom of the Sea," naturally because it was interested in the film's The romantic style of the film is very different from that of "Poseidon", and Lindsay Lohan's popularity is also one of the studio's treasures, from the initial hundreds of thousands of dollars to the "Lucky Kiss" of $750,000, Lindsay Lohan's ability to sell out the studio's eyes can be seen in the same way, and the director of the romantic comedy Donald Petrie's previous director of the word of mouth is not bad, it seems that "Lucky Kiss" is expected to become a big summer blockbuster from the It seems that "Lucky Kiss" is expected to be a dark horse at the box office from the blockbuster-heavy summer schedule.
[Edit]Behind the scenes
[About the film]
In order to avoid collision with the opening of the World Cup on June 9, the studio adjusted a number of blockbusters, including "Spy Kids 3," "Poseidon," "Da Vinci Code" and other large-scale production of the film's release schedule, which will be a head of the brain into the May this period of time, a crazy fight to squeeze to a summer stalls in the early warm-up. The movie was released last year with "Fantastic Four". And last year had "Fantastic Four" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" to dominate the summer box office of the 20th Century Fox is also a blockbuster in a first sent second-class fiction "unlucky love God" to throw a stone, with a view to the gap in the masterpiece of the other way space.
Quite self-aware of the "unlucky love god" is clearly to be retarded plot, funny plot, beautiful protagonist, romantic love, plus a little bit of superstition with the blockbuster battle. Past experience has proven that the summer schedule never rejects such a modest but pleasing kitsch, and Fox is counting on the audience to be dizzy and bloodthirsty when they are oppressed by the thrilling stunts, gorgeous special effects, and reasoning battles, and "Unlucky in Love" is the kind of retarded light comedy that can play the role of the best summer drink for the body and mind in the right time. Moreover, the film is not useless, although the plot is old-fashioned, but the film has a genuine description of the Manhattan world, screenwriter Emmy Harris (who served as the "Sex and the City" screenwriter) and director Donald Petrelli are good at creating dessert-type comedies, coupled with exquisite costumes and fine details of life, in a crowd of fierce and strong in a very eye-catching, "Unlucky Eros" basically as long as no brains to laugh and pampering! It's a good way to make a buck.
Despite these optimistic projections, the 2,541 theater opening resulted in a barren $5.5 million, which was a huge disappointment, and even Lindsay Lohan, who had high hopes, couldn't make it back. This is not enough, on the one hand, with the recent Lindsay Lohan's popularity is low: since 2006, Lohan has been kicked by the media all kinds of bad things - anorexia, drunkenness, drugs, depression, hospitalization, crazy parties, strip scandal, broken ankles, just like a "Queen of negative news! "The brightest star in the "New Century Screen Maiden Dream Factory" is now dimming; on the other hand, the casting of the movie is inappropriate. The main audience of "Bad Luck God of Love" is the young audience of 20-30 years old, while most of the members of Lohan's fan club are teenage fans of 10-20 years old, and in 2006, Lohan won the "Favorite Movie Actress of the Year" selected by Nickelodeon International Children's Channel, which is a strong evidence of this. "That is a strong evidence, the slaughter of cattle with a chicken knife, Lohan's strength can not be fully realized.
[Director]
Donald Pate, a graduate of the American Film Institute, worked as a TV actor for ten years before becoming a film director, and then embarked on a career as a director under the guidance of Steven Spielberg, choosing to follow a route of exaggeratedly amusing surrealism. Donald Pate is a dedicated comedic filmmaker who made his name with "Modern Cinderella," the movie that launched Julia "Mouth" Roberts, and has since ventured into sci-fi, family, and action comedies, directing "The Bucket List," "Moneyball," "First Love," "The Tycoon," "Alien Report," "The Boss," and "The Boss," as well as "The Boss" and "The Boss. The Mogul, Aliens Reporting for Duty, Beauty Pageant Cop, and The Ten-Day Dating Handbook, among others. In Donald Pate's opinion, the essential qualities of a romantic comedy are hilarious laughs and unexpected plot twists, and Unlucky in Love is right on the money.
In addition to his ability to create gags and spice up romance, Pate's other specialty is tapping into the comedic potential of his actresses: no matter what type of beauty they are, from Julia Roberts (Modern Cinderella) to Sandra Bullock (Beauty Pageant) to Kate Hudson (The Ten-Day Dating Handbook), in Pate's hands, they all turn into a laugh bomb they couldn't have predicted! . Lindsay Lohan, who has done great work in "Dirty Dancing" and "Bad Girls," was next on Pate's radar, and he was determined to unlock Lohan's much-needed comedic chops with "Unlucky in Love".
[Cast]
The biggest attraction of "Unlucky in Love" was American diva Lindsay Lohan. The 19-year-old star has now surpassed Britney in Hollywood popularity. Unlucky in Love" is Lohan's first attempt at adult roles. Lohan's mom, who is also her agent, predicts that "within five years, she'll have the roles that Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow have taken, and an Academy Award. ......" In June 2006, Lohan will be seen in the Oscar-winning "The Greatest Showman of All Time," a movie that will feature her in the movie "The Greatest Showman". In June 2006, Lohan will star opposite Meryl Streep in Oscar-winning director Robert Altman's "The Ranch House Companion," before appearing in a series of serious historical dramas and even a crime thriller. Maybe with all the paparazzi gossip out there, Lohan can really fix things.
[Edit]Highlights
- To make the best use of Lindsay Lohan's cash cow, the producers pulled out all the stops: During the filming period, there was a lot of talk about Lohan -- one minute she was sick, the next she was depressed because of her parents' divorce, and the next there were reports that she was on the set with an invited guest, and that she had a relationship with her parents on the set. she was having toilet sex on the set with Harry Judd, a British rocker who had been brought in for a cameo. With so much gossip, the movie has attracted enough eyeballs before it even opens in theaters.

The band's four handsome and energetic male vocalists, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd, all make guest appearances. Its debut single "Five Colors in Her Hair" is also a hit in the movie.
- Lindsay Lohan has been in the spotlight ever since her successful portrayal of wisecracking twins in 1998's Born This Way, and in 2003, she co-starred in 2003's Dirty Dancing with Jamie Lee Curtis, a mutual "turn". Next came the 2004 school comedy Dirty Dancing, in which she played a charming and mischievous high school girl. With a voice as deep and husky as Demi Moore's, this young actress is simultaneously sexy, smart, funny, cool and touching, both on screen and in real life. With such great credentials, a legion of die-hard fans, and the luck of the draw, Lindsay Lohan, who has been cast in romantic comedies at such a young age, could follow in the footsteps of Julia Roberts and make a name for herself in Hollywood.

This time, in order to make the New York in the movie more convincing, director Donald Petrie arranged the entry of iconic places such as New York's Central Park and Times Square to seek a realistic New York style. In addition, the McFly band mentioned in the movie does exist, and this band is exactly played by the eponymous band of four of the hottest and most handsome boys in Britain in reality, who are also responsible for writing and arranging the songs in the movie.
