★First Edition
The first edition of Super Star Avenue, which began on January 12, 2007, with the cooperation of Huayan International Music, started with more than one hundred preliminary contestants in a competition with varying content. After a five-month process of preliminary rounds and rematches, the program entered the official finals from May 2007 onwards.
The first edition of the program started with Taiwanese women between 15 and 24 years old as the largest viewer group, but the ratings were not high. The first episode aired at 0.8%, but by June 8, 2007, the overall ratings had reached 6.87%, with the finale reaching a high of 8.77%, a more than 10-fold increase. The show broke through the traditionally more popular 8 o'clock series in Taiwan and set a record for the highest ratings in the past six years, making it a popular variety show rarely seen in Taiwan in recent years.
The top ten contestants of the first contest:
Yang Zongwei, Yoga Lin, Chou Tingwei, Pan Yuwen, Lu Xuerui, Liu Mingfeng, Hsu Renjie, Xie Zhenting, Li Xuanrong, and An Bozheng.
Huayan Records arranged for the release of two compilation albums, "Starlight Reunion - Super Starlight Avenue Top 10 Commemorative Compilation" and "Love Starlight Selection - Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" (Xu Wanling joined the chorus of the second album and became a member of the "Starlight Gang"), and the subsequent promotional activities, autograph signing and concerts were all labeled as "Starlight Gang". The band's name is "Starlight Gang".
The Starlight Gang was the most popular singing group in Taiwan in 2007, and was ranked as one of the top ten most popular singers on Yahoo! The first compilation album even set a new record in the G-music charts with a sales ratio of 66.22%. The "Starlight Gang" phenomenon was listed as the second of the top ten fever news in 2007 on Yahoo! BBS, and the extent of their popularity can also be seen, the Starlight Gang's special edition and the U.S. pitcher Wang Jianmin's special edition had a record of 6,000 people discussing the record online.
On December 29, 2007, HuaXun Electronics and ezPeer+ hosted the "Starlight Gang's Teacher's Reunion" ticketed concert at NTU's Comprehensive Gymnasium, with 20-minute performances each by Yang Zongwei, Lin Yujia, Zhou Dingwei, Pan Yuwen, and Hsu Renjie, which was a record for a ticketed concert in Taiwan's music industry without releasing a solo album.
Because the contestants of the second edition of the competition were called "Starlight Class 2", the top ten of the first edition were also called "Starlight Class 1", but it was mostly used only on the program.
★The second edition
The second edition of Super Star Avenue, which began on July 20, 2007, was partnered by Universal Music and also began with a hundred selected contestants, with many of the contests being the same as the first. As the first edition of "Super Avenue of Stars" successfully opened up its popularity, contestants from various backgrounds gathered in this year's edition, and the contestants' origins are more diverse than the first edition, and the proportion of contestants with aboriginal ancestry is higher than the first edition, with five out of the top ten contestants having aboriginal ancestry; another feature is that there are only two boys in the top ten, and the remaining eight are all girls.
Since the second edition of the contest, the top 20 contestants have been referred to by the hosts, judges, media and the public as the "Starlight Class 2".
On October 19, 2007, the top ten contestants were officially released, namely:
Mr. Lai Ming Wei, Ms. Liang Wenyin, Ms. Ye Wei Ting, Mr. Wu Zhong Ming, Ms. Tseng Pei Ci, Ms. Wei Ru Yun, Ms. Lin Yirong, Ms. Huang Meizhen, Ms. Lin Peiyao, and Ms. Li Chien Na.
Since then, in media reports, the term "Starlight II" has come to refer exclusively to the top 10 contestants of the second contest. On November 17, 2007, Starlight's digital album (calendar version) was released. The compilation album, titled "You Are My Starlight", was produced and distributed by Universal Music and co-distributed in Hong Kong by Ching Tung Records and Ching Sai Music, and was available for pre-order on January 3, 2008, and was officially released on January 25, 2008 (in Taiwan).
In addition, "Starlight Legend", a documentary film produced by celebrity director Lee Gang and directed by Hsu Ming-chun, featuring the second contestants' journey through the competition, with some clips first seen in the grand finale broadcast on January 18, 2008, and then some clips released first in the final episode aired on January 25, 2008, and the Lui Kung Film, which produced the film, is expected to be released in theaters on April 11 of the same year.
★The third edition
The third edition of "Super Star Avenue", which began on February 1, 2008, expanded the scope of the contest from Taiwan to the rest of the world, giving overseas Chinese a chance to live the dream of stardom. And unlike the previous two editions, the third champion not only has a record contract, but also a prize money of NT$3 million. The global campaign includes Los Angeles, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and other places. The rules for the preliminary rounds are to sing a song of your choice for 30 seconds, and any special talent is allowed.
