In 1913, The Rite of Spring was born. It was choreographed as a ballet by Stravinsky, the Ballets Russes with Gagilev, and Nijinsky, the "God of Dance".

The first work of modern dance, and a touchstone for countless choreographers and dancers, was a sensation of the century.
Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" works of rebellion, pioneering from the premiere of the booing riots, opposition, through the changes of the times, the work of the bold and about the mystery of life, so far has been derived again more than 400 versions.

So the question is
400 versions of the "Rite of Spring",
Why is Yang Liping version of the "Rite of Spring" the most different?
PART 02
-
Reinventing the Oriental Ritual
Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring depicts a young girl being offered as a sacrifice to appease the god of spring by dancing until she dies.
The maiden, chosen by fate, is sacrificed, and the worship of nature, the fear of the passing of life, and the longing for the coming of spring are interspersed with the indifference of humanity.
Yang Liping's version of The Rite of Spring is just the opposite. The concept of "reincarnation" in Eastern religions is added, which is very characteristic of Eastern culture, and is no longer a mere "sacrifice".
The concept of reincarnation, from life, to death, to nirvana, is infused into The Rite of Spring in a spirit of fearlessness and universalism, unlike the wisdom of the West.
Yang Liping once lamented, "Many people will forget what they have, and it's really just a matter of lowering your head to find the seed and letting it germinate into something. It's not that hard. It's a very beautiful mantra to honor your own culture."
PART 03
-
Top Team Injects Soul of Nation
In 2016, Yang Liping assembled an international top team, and together with Ye Jintian, He Xuntian, and other artists, embarked on a great adventure of this "code" of life.
In two years, they traveled through illusions and reincarnations, creating "something" from "nothing", interpreting the West with the East; seeking common ground with differences, dissecting the Western mystery with the Eastern code.
This "Rite of Spring" is a deconstruction of the classic "Rite of Spring", a new structure of "Rite of Spring", and a new interpretation of "Rite of Spring" by Yang Liping with oriental aesthetics, oriental wisdom and oriental philosophy.
The stage form is full of mysterious oriental elements, and the dance language is a brand new exploration based on the consistent Yang's dance aesthetics. The plot is even more magnificently imaginative, based on the original "Rite of Spring".
