Shanxi dialect can be divided into Jin dialect and Fenhe dialect. Linfen, Yuncheng and Jincheng (west of Qinshui County) in the three cities of southern Shanxi use Fenhe dialect, the official dialect of the Central Plains, while others use Jin dialect.
Shanxi dialect inherits the ancient rhyme of Chinese, and Linfen area has "Pingshui rhyme". Therefore, it is easier for Shanxi people to learn ancient Chinese than Beijingers, because Beijingers can only pronounce four tones, and there are no Rusheng characters in Mandarin, but in Shanxi dialect. Shanxi dialect still retains many ancient Chinese words, such as: two people walking together are called "neck and neck"; Poverty at home is called "cold at home"
