There are several folklore in Bride of the Flower Waist, what are they?

Abstract: The Bride of the Waisted Flower is one of the "Red River Trilogy" directed by director Zhang Jiarui. This article tries to show and analyze the folklore of the Waisted Flower embodied in the film in three aspects: social folklore, material folklore and spiritual folklore. Keywords: film and television; Huayuayi; folklore Folklore is an ancient culture created in the process of human existence and has always been with human beings, which integrates material and spirit, reality and ideal, emotion and reason, practicality and aesthetics, and expands in all aspects of human life, with a strong permeability. Film and television is a product of high technology, which integrates public life and artistic aesthetics by means of modern science and technology (sound, light, electricity, chemistry, automatic control, etc.), and has strong compatibility. Therefore, the combination of folklore and movie and television is out of necessity. [i] On the one hand, folklore provides a broad creative world for film and television. On the other hand, film and television show and reflect folklore. Chinese movies have been absorbing the nutrients of folklore consciously or unconsciously since their creation, such as The Difficult Wife in 1913, The Spring Silkworms and The Pressure Money in the 1920s and 1930s, and The Five Golden Flowers and The Teahouse in the early 1980s after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Especially since the 1980s, there have been a large number of films showing folklore, such as The Rite of Youth, Red Sorghum, The Horse Thief, and Big Red Lanterns Hanging High. The Bride of the Flower Waist, directed by Zhang Jiarui, is without exception a movie that shows folklore. At the beginning of the movie, it explains that it is set against the backdrop of Yunnan's minority group, the "Nisu people, commonly known as the Huazhou Yi, a branch of the Yi ethnic group in Yunnan." "Hua Waist" is another name for this sub-family, because the women's clothing is exquisite and generous, colorful, and the waist is tied with an exquisite flower waist bundle, which is affectionately known as the "Hua Waist Yi", commonly known as "Hua Waist Yi". "The film tells the story of a pair of flower-waisted Yi people. The film tells the love story of a pair of young Hua Waist Yi people, A Long and Feng Mei, which shows the colorful folklore of Hua Waist Yi. In this paper, we will show and analyze the social, material and spiritual folklore from three aspects. Social folklore, also known as social organization and institutional folklore, is mainly shown in the film as the marriage custom of "not falling into the husband's family" of Hua Wa Yi. At the beginning of the movie, it introduces: "There is a generational custom in Huayuayi: after the marriage of a man and a woman, the bride can't live in the same room with the groom, and she has to wait for at least three years before the bride can live in the groom's house, which is called the 'homecoming' custom". Then, a unique flower waist Yi wedding in front of the eyes, the wedding host sang in Yi language: "choose a good day/tie the dragon and phoenix/to abide by the Yi way/three years shall not return/to return home/in and out of the pairs/until the white head of the old/feng dance with the dragon fly." Since then, this custom has continued throughout. On the night of the wedding, Feng Mei got drunk and climbed into Ah Long's room through the window. Early the next morning, Ah-Long's sister-in-law told him it was time to get up and get to work, and when she walked into the room and saw two people asleep in a bed, she shrieked in shock, and the beans she was carrying in her hands were scattered on the floor. Aaron's elder brother, Abba, and Ama heard the noise and also rushed up. When they saw this situation, the mother said "shame on you", the elder brother hurriedly dragged A Long out of bed, sister-in-law and the mother called Feng Mei up, but did not expect Feng Mei to sit up and then lie down, the father said angrily, "give me even with the bed back to the mother's home. When Feng Mei was carried back, her father also said, "Shame on you". The reason why people were like this was because Feng Mei had violated the custom of "not leaving her husband's house". In this case, Xiao Zhang's mother said that this was indeed the case in the past, but now the younger generation has not so much to pay attention to, less than a year to "return home", and some simply do not have the "return home" custom, the old people are also accustomed to it, not strange. [ii] Fengmei, in order to see Lung every day, is determined to join the dragon team, despite the restrictions of the "homecoming" custom. The film also shows how Sister-in-Law and Little Sister Seven perceive the idea of "returning home", with Sister-in-Law saying to Feng Mei: "When I didn't return home, I was very happy all day long. I danced the dragon dance all night long and didn't even know I was tired." The implication is that a woman can't dance the dragon after returning home, and she is pestered by household chores all day long. We can see the busy figure of the sister-in-law, who burns the foot-washing water for her in-laws, grinds beans, and cooks ......, so it can be said that there is no more happiness when she is a girl. Little Seven Sisters did not return home for three years, through the mouth of Ah Yu, we learned that the reason for Little Seven Sisters not to return home is "afraid that if you return home, you will not be free, and you can not dance the dragon". It is due to the influence of the two of them that when Ah-Long wants to share a room with Feng-Mei, Feng-Mei puts up a strong resistance, shouting "I don't want to go home, I still want to compete, I want to dance the dragon". This shows that a woman is free during the period when she is not in her husband's house and can participate in various social activities, such as the dragon dance. Once she returns home, she loses her freedom, not to mention the dragon dance. The last scene in the movie shows Feng Mei and Xiao Qi Mei working in the fields with their children on their backs. Although they won the gold medal in the dragon dance competition, they still returned home in the end. This shows how strong a hold customs have on people! In the movie, material folklore is embodied in the dress, housing and food customs of Huayuayi. It has been pointed out that the origin of the word "Hua Waist" is related to the Hua Waist costumes. The dresses are well-made and colorful. In the movie, when the flower waist girls appear in full dress, they are like the blooming horse cherry blossoms, which are very touching. Fengmei and the black cottage lad wrestling, wearing only a colorful bib. This bib is an important part of the Huayuayi costume, the traditional bib is about 25 centimeters long, about 16 centimeters wide rectangular embroidery, it can not be used alone, need to dress and life with the dress and wear in the women's lower abdomen. In order to better reflect the characteristics of the flower waist Yi bibs, the designer boldly adopted the Yi "three red" waist style and improve, and then with the Yi flower waist women hand embroidered worship pattern production, to the flame pattern as the main, other floral patterns as a supplement, so that the bibs become an independent can be worn alone as a whole, the new design of the bib than the The new design of the bib is 2/3 larger than the traditional bib.[iii] In this way, the girl's breasts and abdomen are covered, revealing only her arms and back, which better demonstrates the sexy beauty of the flower waist girl. In addition, the flower belt was a token of love given by the woman to her sweetheart, and once returned, it signaled her withdrawal from the marriage. There are two scenes about the "flower belt" in the movie, one is that Xiaoqimui's husband needs to pay for a car accident, so he needs Xiaoqimui to come home to help him make bricks and mortar, and if she doesn't listen to him, he will return the flower belt, and Ah Yu shouts, "You dare to withdraw from the marriage". On another occasion, Ah Lung threw the flower belt to Feng Mei, saying that he wanted to withdraw from the marriage. It was a very serious matter when the flower belt was returned. Fung Mei's father said, "Shame on you, you don't want to lose face, but I still want to lose face. Not only did Ah Lung return the sash to Fung Mei, but he also fired her. When Ah Chung said to Ah Lung, "In fact, Feng Mei's heart has always been in love with you," Ah Lung sullenly drank wine, and finally realized what the most important thing in life, drunkenly holding a dragon's head on the roof of the "earth palm house" wildly danced a thrilling dance of the dragon. Tupang house is a kind of flat-roofed earth house with rammed earth walls and beams on the walls. The roof is sturdy and can be used as a place to dry grain and keep cool. This type of building usually has two floors, with a hall in the center and a "main floor" above the hall, where ancestral tablets are enshrined. Therefore, at no time could a new house be placed upstairs, which could only be occupied by the elderly or unmarried children. [The movie, however, puts the new house on the second floor, which violates the customary rules and arouses the discontent of many local old people. Therefore, the movie should respect and conform to local cultural traditions when displaying folk culture. Rice noodle is one of the snacks popular in Yunnan province and loved by people of all ethnic groups. There are three scenes in the movie in which Feng Mei is eating rice noodle, and each time she wolfs it down and stuffs it into her mouth. There is also a shot of a flower waist girl squeezing rice noodle, while squeezing, they sing: "The blue water is wrapped around the green mountain, a sister is wrapped around her lover, where is the person in her heart at this time, a sister squeezes the rice noodle, waiting for my brother to come and taste it". Spiritual folklore is ideological folklore, which is specifically manifested in the film as the folk beliefs and folk songs and dances of Huahuayi. Hua Wa Yi is a nation that worships dragons, which is reflected in the movie, such as dragon flags, dragon statues, and dragon scores. Ah Long also tells the story of the dragon: "Why are our melons big and sweet, why are the buffaloes tired until old age, and why do the crops grow so well, it is all because of the blessing of the dragon. My grandfather said, a long time ago, I do not know where to fly a dragon with fire, it flew wherever, where the fire, as if the sky more sun, the rain does not go, the sea is dry, the crops are all dead. The people in the village beat gongs and drums and went up to the mountain with sacrificial cows and goats, and the divine dragon finally heard the people's prayers and flew to drive the fire dragon away, and the rain came down, and the people were finally saved." In fact, the divine dragon that A Long recounts is the ancestor of the Hua Wa Yi, "A Long", who, according to legend, saved the Yi people from being harmed by demons and ghosts, but was unfortunately killed himself. Therefore, people worship this ancestor through a small festival (Miga Hao) every year and a big festival (De Pei Hao) every twelve years, praying for a good harvest and the safety of people and animals. The dragon festival will be a dragon dance, Huazhou Yi's dragon dance team has a variety of forms, in which the women's dragon dance team is particularly eye-catching, a dragon danced by 12 girls, indicating the 12 Chinese zodiac signs. They dance as if the dragon is flying, and the dragon is prancing, which is like a wonderful picture scroll of the phoenix dancing and the dragon flying! The women's dragon dance team of Whistle Chong Township of Shiping County has also won a number of awards and is famous both at home and abroad. Yi has a proverb: "song more than the Yi family, dancing twist but the Yi family, the stars in the sky can be counted, the Yi song and dance can not be counted, to ask how many songs and dances of the Yi family? Please use the sea bucket to measure it." [v] This is a true portrayal of the richness and colorfulness of Yi folk songs and dances. The theme song of the movie seems to be a kind of "heavenly music", after listening to it, there is a kind of feeling that "the sound of the afterglow will not stop for three days". This is a "sea vegetable" folk song, which is named after a kind of aquatic herb named "sea vegetable" in Isolong Lake, and is developed from the mountain songs sung by young men and women talking about love. In the movie, the sea vegetable accent was shot in MTV style, which was given a new form. There is a scene in the movie where Ah Cong and Feng Mei dance the smoke box dance. The Cigarette Box Dance is named after the jumping of a specially beautified wooden cigarette box. Through the clever use of the feet, hands, body, waist, and head, the dance directly simulates or abstractly expresses the behavior and moods of animal life habits, human beings climbing mountains, wading in the water, herding animals, hunting, engaging in agricultural labor, and expressing their love for their spouses through a wide variety of movements, techniques, and dance postures. [vi] The cigarette box dance in the film was processed and transformed by famous dancers to make it more sexy and beautiful. It is worth noting that the "Sea Vegetable Accent" and the "Smoke Box Dance" are the traditional songs and dances of the Sandaohong, another branch of the Yi ethnic group in Shiping County, and the movie displays them on the Huayuai Yi, which better promotes and spreads the traditional culture of the Yi ethnic group in Shiping. It is these colorful Huayu Yi folklore that makes the film achieve a beautiful effect, so that we can't forget the ancient marriage customs, gorgeous costumes, distinctive dragon dance, melodious sea food cavity, sexy smoke box dance, .......
