Etymology and Meaning of "One Mountain in Gong Yu"

The allusion of "A Mountain with a Yugong" comes from Liezi Tang Wen. The idea of free translation in the textbook is probably like this: "According to legend, there was an old man who lived in the north of China, and his name was Beishan Gong Yu. There are two mountains in the south of his home, one is called Taihang Mountain, and the other is called Wu Wang. Yugong made up his mind to lead his sons to dig up the two mountains with hoes. An old man named Zhisou said with a smile, it's silly of you to do so. You guys can't dig up these two mountains at all. Yu Gong replied: I have my son after my death. My son died and I have a grandson. My children and grandchildren are endless. Although these two mountains are very high, they will not increase any more. If you dig less, you get less. Why not dig unevenly? Gong Yu refuted the wrong view of Zhisou, and was firm, digging mountains every day. This incident touched God, so he sent two immortals down to earth and moved the two mountains. "

However, in the process of free translation, Yu Gong deliberately played down the following difficulties:

1. The King of Wu and Taihang Mountain are two mountains, or rather two mountains. "Taihang Mountain, Wuwangshan Mountain, Fiona Fang 700 Li, Wan Ren."

Second, Gong Yuren's only tools are hoes and dustpans, without any modern excavation, blasting and transportation equipment.

Third, Gong Yu, whose labor force is only 90 years old, plus three descendants and an enthusiastic child who came to help.

Fourthly, the excavated earthwork should be picked up with a dustpan and buried in the Bohai Sea, and Gong Yu's hometown, Jiyuan, Henan, is not a few days away from the Bohai Sea.

In fact, it is almost impossible for modern people to level these two mountains without using nuclear weapons. Based on the above difficulties, any normal person can come to the conclusion that the foolish old man is sick, and it doesn't matter if he is sick, but he will suffer with his descendants: "Your heart is solid and unbreakable, and you have never been a widow or a weak child. Although I am dead, I have a son; Children have grandchildren, and grandchildren have children; A son has a son and a son has a grandson. Children and grandchildren are infinite. If the mountains don't increase, why bother? "

Gong Yu's words seem grandiose and full of the belief that man can conquer nature. However, it is obvious in unofficial history that many decision-makers go to the project without research, and as a result, one party is restless and suffers heavy losses.

We might as well imagine what would have happened to Yu Gong and his descendants if the fantasy myth that "the emperor felt sincere and ordered Kuafu's second son to bear two mountains, one to cover the east and the other to cover the south" had not happened. The result is: foolish old man is foolish old man and wise man is wise man. The world will not change qualitatively because of his stupid behavior, but the descendants of the stupid old man will pay a heavy price because of his decision. It is an unforgettable hope, just like WU GANG cutting osmanthus trees in Guanghan Palace. You never know when it will end. In physical terms, this is called futility. Therefore, the author of this allusion can only use obscene myths to support Yugong's refutation that the wise man is Mongolian.

In fact, the original intention of using this idiom is to motivate followers. The seemingly powerful mountains of "imperialism" and "feudalism" are actually not terrible and can be overthrown. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), because these two mountains were overthrown, this allusion developed into "a fool moved mountains to transform China", and "man can conquer nature", which became a mobilization slogan to inspire people all over the country to change the poverty and backwardness of China, and it was of positive significance to some extent. However, the author does not agree that it has appeared in primary or junior high school textbooks for a long time. This article sends a very bad signal to minors who lack discrimination. At least the following points:

1. Make rash decisions and encourage people to do unscientific things.

Second, destroy nature and the environment.

Third, in the face of extremely high transformation costs, we work hard blindly and don't understand the truth that "people can move, trees can move to death". At that time, there was no temporary residence permit and the whole family could move.

Fourth, reverse black and white, promote fools to smart people, degrade smart people to fools and mislead minors.

Fifth, hope in the gods and poison the teenagers.

At the end of the article, I have to mention a report I saw today, entitled "Villagers dreamed of treasures in the mountains for sixteen years". Look at the title and you will know what's going on. Ironically, there is such a subtitle in the report-"Gong Yu" moved the mountain by hand, and his spirit touched the villagers. Even the old man who dreams of getting rich without doing business has become the successor of the spirit of "foolish old man"
