The Four-Faced Buddha Altar is one of Thailand's most prosperous bases for incense worship. In Thailand and Southeast Asia, the Four-Faced Buddha is regarded as a benevolent god. Before worshipping the Four-Faced Buddha, one should abstain from meat and vegetables as a sign of kindness to animals. Believers should not mistreat animals in general. The Four-Faced Buddha altar was built in 1956. It is said that when the Lovers' Bay Hotel (the predecessor of the Grand Hyatt) was being built, a series of unfortunate industrial accidents occurred and a number of local workers were mysteriously killed. This four-faced Buddha altar was later built near the construction site to enshrine the four-faced Buddha and pray for the blessings of all living beings. Since then, there have been no more industrial accidents. Every year, many Chinese believers and Buddhists come here to worship, especially Hong Kong people. Not worshipping the Four-Faced Buddha in Bangkok is like not worshipping God in a temple.
