Poems of Bing Xin

1. Mother

Mother He!

The storm in the sky came,

the bird hid in its nest;

The storm in my heart came,

I only hid in your arms.

2. "Paper Boat"

--Sent to my mother

I never want to give up a piece of paper,

I always keep it--keep it,

folded it into a very small boat,

and threw it out of the boat,

This is the most important thing.

Throwing it from the boat into the sea.

Some were swept into the windows of the boats by the winds of the sky,

and some were wetted by the waves and stained on the bows.

I still folded them every day without discouragement,

always hoping that one would trickle down to where I wanted it to go.

Mother, if you see a small white boat in your dream,

don't be surprised if it comes into your dream for no reason.

It was folded with tears by your beloved daughter,

who begged it to carry her love and sorrow home.

Eight, twenty-seven, nineteen twenty-three in a Pacific boat.

3. The Flower of Success

The flower of success,

People only envy her present brightness!

But her buds,

Soaked with tears of struggle,

Spilled with the blood of sacrifice.

Tender green buds

Tender green buds,

and youth said:

"Develop yourself!"

The pale white flower,

and the youth said,

"Contribute yourself!"

The crimson fruit,

and the youth said,

"Sacrifice thyself!"

4. Excerpts from "The Stars"

(I)

The stars twinkle-

Deep blue space

How is it ever heard that they talk?

In silence

In shimmering light

They y celebrated each other.

(v)

Darkness

How is it portrayed?

The depths of the mind

The depths of the universe

The resting place in the brilliant light.

(viii)

The remnants of flowers adorn the luxuriant branches

Birds fly away.

Scattered fallen reds all over the ground -

Is this the same glimpse of life?

(98)

Youth!

Believe in yourself!

Only you are real,

and only you can create yourself.

(103)

Time!

Am I

too much for you now?

Yet what I cast aside is temporary

What I seek is eternal.

(107)

My friend!

Be precious

Don't cast the pearls of your heart

into the sea where it is hard to make waves.

5. "Early Morning"

The dawn broke,

and the customs were bright.

My mind, birdlike, rides high on the wind.

Flying all over the sky, to the ends of the sea,

The sky, the ends of the sea, are filled with your love.

O God! Thy love follows me everywhere,

Thy hand guides me,

Thy right hand shall uphold me,

My mind, like a bird, rides high on the wind,

Rides high on the wind, and is never far from Thy infinite love, Amen.

6. "Evening"

In the bright and radiant paradise:

Flowers blossomed,

Birds sang,

The spring of life gurgled,

The sun slowly set,

Mirroring the afterglow -

Is it shaking hands with everything?

Is it a parting song?

A slight cool breeze blew,

and in the light,

the Creator of the Universe,

He-Himself walked slowly through the garden.

O LORD!

Did you create them that they might praise you?

Yes, to sing his praises,

to praise him.

He is He who was, and is, and is to come forevermore, Amen.

7. "Twilight"

O God!

Infinite wisdom,

Infinite mystery,

who can know it?

Is it me? Is it him?

It is neither,

except that thou showest him from the light,

O God!

Show me from the light,

and to Him who is without number in the universe, Amen.

8. "Who He Is"

The anointing will be over

Only a circle of dark shadows remains.

The branches are wounded,

only a few groans remain.

Those that do not shine, blow out,

Those that do not blossom, break off.

God!

"The wounded reed, he does not break.

The lamp that will be broken, he does not blow out."

Our light-His love,

is endless for all eternity, Amen.

9. "Dawn"

The stern stillness of the world, the splendor of the world-

Who feels me awake at dawn?

God, in your stern stillness and brightness,

My heart is settled, my heart is settled.

I will eulogize.

O mind, shall awake.

Rise up and praise the LORD.

The lyre, O lyre, shall awake.

Rise up and praise the LORD.

At dawn,

Who feel me awake, Amen.

10. Excerpts from "Spring Water"

(a)

Spring Water!

Another year

Still this faintly blowing.

Can I take another picture?

Spring water warmly and quietly thanked me and said!

I never leave a shadow

Not only for you."

(xx)

Are the hills independent

and the universe then possessed alone?

(xxxiii)

The flower in the corner!

When you are alone

The sky and the earth are small.

(IV.iii)

What does Spring ever say?

But her great latent power

has already tenderized the world in this way

!

(62)

I would salvage the years of the past

but in the warp and woof of time

there are threads of the present!

(65)

It is only a lone star!

In the infinite darkness

The loneliness of the universe has been written.

(7.1)

When I come and go like a floating cloud

I really feel that the universe is too lonely!

(76)

Loneliness increases depression

Busyness eradicates worries-

My friend!

Happiness is in non-stop work!

(82)

My friend

Don't let the spring breeze deceive you

The color of flowers is not as good as their fragrance!

(87)

Youth!

Is it just a review?

The world is not moving forward.

(90)

Wise men!

In this indifferent world

It is only in the darkness that you can carry the lamp of confidence

.

(102)

My question -

My heart

is silent in the light.

My dreams

But in the darkness they are clarified for me!

(112)

The greater the waves

The greater the joy of the solid rock

In the silence of its hold

.

(I.34)

Fate is like the sea-wind--

Blowing the boat of youth

Drifting

Curving

Crossing the sea of time.

(137)

Strike in silence!

In this infinite world

Weak as I am

Originally I should only smile

Not put words in my mouth.

(174)

Young man,

precious description,

Time is turning the pages,

please write!

11. Midnight

God! You have arranged this world of strict silence.

From the starlight, from the sound of the leaves

I hear your words.

Where are you, where is the universe, and where is man?

God is the God of love,

the universe is the universe of love.

Where is man?

God! I give thanks to Thee,

for Thou hast admonished me, Amen.
