Pulling up a Rush Flower

A folk song from Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province.

In Chinese folk songs, "flower" is one of the most common themes, and there are about three ways to use it: one is to use flowers as a metaphor to express love, such as "Jasmine Flower" and "Flower Child" song "Going up to the high mountains to look at the plains"; one is to celebrate nature and teach nature knowledge, such as the song of the One is to glorify nature and teach natural knowledge, such as some of the "flowers"; another is to use flowers as a medium for singing, and the flowers themselves do not have a specific meaning. The flower itself has no specific meaning. For example, the "Flowering Tune" in the north of Shanxi Province and the song "Plucked Rush Flower" and so on.

"Pluck the root of the reed wood flower" was originally a local song sung in the paddy field labor, "rice field song"; rice farmers in order to relieve fatigue, self-regulation, it is a song to send Xing, they sang the contents of a great improvisation, while the tune and the liner notes are relatively stable. On the surface, the lyrics of this rice-planting song are divided into three sections, but in fact, only the first line of each section is a "real word", followed by the fixed liner notes "pulling up a reed flower" and "fragrant rose magnolia blossoms", which replaces the real one with an imaginary one. The next is the fixed liner notes "pulling up a reed flower" and "fragrant roses and magnolias bloom. The structure of the lyrics suggests that the song uses "flowers" as a means of expression, regardless of what is being sung, which is also one of the characteristics of labor songs in general. This song was recorded in the early 50's by the musician Fei Ke, it has two kinds of sheet music, one is the one collected in this book; the other is the sheet music for the stage, in order to strengthen the lyricism, the recorder in the penultimate 6 bars at the addition of two bars of phrases, and then repeated once more, so that the music produces the new meaning of the repetitions of the lingering, but also to make the song body due to the expansion to achieve a balance, so that the original irregularity of the three sentences into four, the expansion of the sentence to play a "turn" of the sentence, and the "turn" of the sentence. The expanded sentence plays the role of a "turning" sentence. The tone of the whole song combines a little bit of euphemistic factors in the bright, unrestrained, and vigorous tone, and is soft and strong, blending the characteristics of the south and north of the Yangtze River and the labor songs and lyrical songs, which is one of the reasons why it has been widely spread.

In the nine-year compulsory education secondary school music textbook "Songs for Secondary School Students" newly compiled by the Jiangsu Provincial Education Commission and put into use in the fall of 2003, the Yangzhou folk song "Plucked Rushes and Flowers" was chosen.

Lyrics:

Calling me to come here, I came,

Plucked roots of firewood flowers, fragrant rose magnolia bloom.

Butterflies that love flowers ah hold sister that look ah, mandarin ducks that play in the water to Lang guess.

The little one, the hibiscus and peony are in bloom under the moon.

The golden wheat is cut down, and the rice seedlings are planted,

Pulling up the roots of the reed wood, the flowers, and the clothes are washed, and the sangs are picked up.

The first thing you need to do is to get your hands on the laundry after dusk, and the second thing you need to do is to get your hands on the moss, even if it's wet with dew.

The little one, the hibiscus and peony flowers bloomed under the moon.

The fish are flying and jumping, and the nets are lifting,

Pulling up the root of the reed wood, the lover's labor is coming to the competition,

The man of the house is a man of the house.

The first thing you need to do is to get your hands on a pair of shoes and a pair of shoes.

The little boy, the hibiscus and peony flowers bloomed under the moon.

The first thing you need to do is to get your hands dirty.
