Is it to learn more words and understand more truth, or to enhance intimacy, or to sow the seeds of reading in children's hearts? No matter what kind of hope, it is undoubtedly the key to inspire children's active thinking to make picture book reading have more benign effects on children.
Hao Lei, a teacher of Shanghai Hurd Bilingual School, who recently appeared on the cover of "Primary School Mathematics Teacher" magazine, is a member of the mathematics project team of the whole curriculum education research center. He creatively linked mathematics picture books with teaching materials, so that students could enjoy learning mathematics. In Mr. Hao Lei's view, asking open questions, encouraging children to observe details, and expanding learning are the three key measures for parents to accompany their children to read picture books.
Ask open-ended questions
Picture book teaching is a primary teaching practice. Mathematics reading and writing course takes mathematics picture books as the carrier, and integrates stories, operations, drawing and drama, aiming at stimulating children's interest in learning mathematics, increasing mathematics experience and developing mathematics thinking. On the road of exploring math picture books, Mr. Lei has many experiences of his own. He summed up three usages of math picture books through replacement, expansion and reading.
In a math picture book class in Hurd, Shanghai, Teacher Lei took out the book "The Witch's Magic Pot", and the classroom atmosphere began to become relaxed.
"A long time ago, there was a small village. Because there was no rain for many days and the crops withered, the villagers in the village were very upset. " Teacher Lei began to tell stories as soon as class began. More than twenty pairs of small eyes are staring at the picture book in Teacher Lei's hand.
Teacher Lei went on to say, "Everyone turned to the oldest wise man in the village for help. The wise man said: When I was very young, this happened once in the village. At that time, the old witch who lived in the devil's cave saved everyone with her magic jar. That magical jar can conjure up many things! "
Now, the curiosity of Hurd's children is all aroused. After all, children naturally like to listen to stories, and it is really wonderful to use stories to open math classes!
"When two little witches opened the bag, everyone found two strange-shaped jars inside." Teacher Lei said mysteriously.
The children are completely immersed in the story at this time. "Son, take a closer look. Is there any difference between these two cans? "
Encourage children to observe details.
The children began to talk at once. Some people say: the colors are different. Some say: Little people have different postures. A child even ran to the stage and explained with his own body while posing. At this time, Sean said as if he had discovered a new continent: "Teacher Lei, this seems to be a plus sign!" "
"Oh, the magic of the jar has been painted on it, as long as you observe it carefully." In this process, Mr. Lei throws questions, but leaves the opportunity to find answers to children, instead of telling them the so-called laws early in order to let children learn and master quickly.
Start with a random guess.
The children's attention was still on the magical jar, when Teacher Lei's second question came: "Just now, through our own observation, we found that the colors of the two jars and the posture of the villain were different. So what are their different functions? Let's take a look together. The little witch put an apple in a green jar. How many apples do you think will be produced? "
Each child expressed his ideas in turn: 1, 2, 100, 1000 ... various answers.
Teacher Lei just listened quietly, and then said slowly, "No matter how many you guessed just now, we just guessed it ourselves, right?" Want to know if I guess right, what should I do? "
As small as hands in the air, he said, "Look at the next page!" "XiaoRu's answer made everyone laugh. Teacher Lei said, "Don't laugh. She's absolutely right! We need to check it out. "
Guide children to discover the law.
Teacher Lei said, "This time, the little witch put two apples in the green jar and two apples in the blue jar. Guess how many apples will come out? " This time, the children's opinions are more unified. "Three green cans come out, and three or four blue cans may come out."
Teacher Lei asked: What are the two answers? The children smiled and said, "Look!" Teacher Lei said, "Then let's guess again. But pay attention, this time, carefully observe the last two changes, and then guess.
"For the first time, we put an apple in and two came out. The second time, we put two apples in and three came out. Then the third time, the little witch put three apples in the green jar. Guess how many apples will come out? " "Will come out four! Because there are rules! " "What is the law?" "Look, go in one, come out two, go in two and come out three, go in three and definitely come out four." "What you said is very good! Who can make his discovery easier? "
Xiao Mo stood up: "The rule of this green jar is, after going in, come out a little."
"A little more is a few more?"
Xiao Mo said, "One!"
Teacher Lei: "Well said! So, you mean, it's better to go out than in ... "
The children said in unison, "One more!"
The essence of verification method
Then, Teacher Lei said, "Let's take a closer look and see if you can discover the mystery of the blue jar. Put one apple in and two out; Put two apples in and four out, so put three in? "
The children said, "Six!"
Xiao Xuan said: "Every time the blue can comes out, it is Shuang Yi body double."
Teacher Lei asked, "What do you mean by a pair?"
Xiao Xuan replied, "Look, if you put one in, you will get one more." Put two in and two out. "
Teacher Lei went on to say, "So put in three, and more will come out ..."
The children replied together: "Three!"
"Yes, if summed up in a short sentence, the mystery of the blue jar is: put in a few, and then come out a few."
The rule of blue jar is actually a simple multiple relationship. This is the first time a child has been exposed to an operational relationship other than addition. Although children can't be described by such technical terms as "one and a half times", they use "one more number" to describe the relationship between the two. A few cents in and 20 cents out. Isn't this the essence of multiple relationships?
Carry out extension learning
The end of the picture book story is meaningful: the little witch turned into a food mountain can't completely solve the villagers' problems, but it will bring new hidden dangers, while the old witch just solved the problem by attracting a heavy rain-it is better to teach people to fish than to teach people to fish.
Unconsciously, a math class is coming to an end in the picture book story. But Mr. Lei didn't seem to want to stop there, but gave the children one last open question: "If you had the chance to design a magical jar yourself, how would you design it?" It turns out that mathematics can also be carried out in the form of drawing!
Because the mathematics teaching under the whole curriculum in Hurd School has broken the traditional disciplinary boundaries and re-examined and designed the teaching with children as the center and children's cognitive development as the center. Let's take a look at the magic pots designed by the children themselves. Can you guess the rules of these cans?
