Carp yue longmen is a popular folk dance in central Zhejiang, China. It tells the story that a group of carp finally jumped over the Longmen and became "dragons" flying all over the world despite difficulties and hardships. Carp is lively and lovely, symbolizing auspiciousness and abundance.
In ancient times, on the fifteenth day of the first month, every household in Wuyi had to tie some dragon lanterns shaped like carp, join the ranks of the Lantern Festival, walk through the streets, sing and dance, celebrate the harvest, and pray for good weather, peace and prosperity. The folk dance "Carp yue longmen" was adapted from the folk "Carp Dragon Lantern" by the creator of Wuyi County Cultural Center.
More than 30 boys and girls performed "Jumping Carp on the Dragon Gate". Lifelike and free-spirited carp swim and fight in the waves, showing the graceful girls in Jiangnan and the handsome boys in Jiangnan.
In the melodious and cheerful music, "carp" dances, and in the high-pitched music, "carp" rolls and jumps. Finally, the "dragon head" rose in the air, and the "dragon body" swayed and danced, pushing the dance to a climax. Carp yue longmen won the highest prize in the 9th Longtan Cup National Excellent Folk Flower Fair.
