Born on November 10, 1958 in Eryuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, Yang Liping is a Chinese mainland female dancer, choreographer, and national-level actress.

Yang Liping was born in a Bai family in Dali, her father, Yang Yinbao, and her mother, Yang Xianguo, were both Bai. But when she was very young, her parents divorced, because the eldest in the family, there are three younger siblings, the responsibility to take care of them naturally fell on the shoulders of Yang Liping. Since she was a young girl, she has not attended any dance school. With her talent, she entered the Xishuangbanna State Song and Dance Troupe from her village in 1971.

In 1995, she appeared in "The King of Lanling", which was directed by Dr. Hu Xuehua, China's first film director to stay in the U.S., with cinematography by Gu Changwei, and music production by He Xuntian.In 1997, she performed in the Osaka International Festival of the Arts in Japan, and was awarded the highest art award by the Osaka International Exchange Center.The National Association of Folk Dance of the Philippines gifted her with a life-long membership.In 2002, she appeared in the mainland version of the "The Legend of the Eagle Sculptors" in the role of Mei Chaofeng, known as the best version of Mei Chaofeng, was quite popular.
