Zhanglin Gugang Xinxing Street

Xinxing Street in Zhanglin Gugang has a history of 200 years. Historically, the ancestors of hipsters crossed the ocean to make a living abroad, and there was a time when merchants gathered in warehouses. Time has passed, Xinxing Street is still intact, and the unique ancient charm of architectural groups in Qing Dynasty still exists, and its cultural and historical value is increasingly attracting the attention of Chaoshan cultural circles.

It is only a few tens of miles from the noisy city to Xinxing Street, but it is like going back in time and strolling in the quiet old street. The antique warehouse-style shops are faintly discernible, but one column, one brick and one tile have faded due to wind and rain, and it is difficult to hide the vicissitudes of the old street. Who knows, 100 years ago, it was still a bustling scene here. Xinxing Street was built in the seventh year of Jiaqing (1802). At that time, Zhanglin Ancient Port, which was adjacent to the mouth of the Han River, was in its heyday, and was known as the "Toarey Yang confluence" in eastern Guangdong in the Qing Dynasty and the "Silk Road" in Chaoshan. As early as the Kangxi period, after the maritime ban was relaxed in the early Qing Dynasty, merchants raised funds to build ships and went to sea, and the first red-headed ship sailed out of Zhang Lin. Since then, the red-headed ship has sailed to China and even major ports in Southeast Asian countries. Cargo ships in Zhanglin Port shuttle day and night, with frequent exchanges. There are large warehouses along Xinxing Street in Hong Kong, so it is also called "Warehouse Street".

After two centuries of changes, Xinxing Street is no longer prosperous, but the remains still exist. In recent years, experts, scholars, overseas Chinese and tourists who come to visit the trail frequently come in and out, and the old street is lively again. An old man in the street said that people often take photos and interviews, and some villagers come to take photos, so they are also photographed. Professor Tsung i Jao, a famous sinologist, once said that Xinxing Street is a historical witness of hipsters traveling overseas to make a living, which will attract thousands of people to seek their roots and recognize their ancestors. Nowadays, the cultural and historical value of Xinxing Street has attracted great attention from local government departments, and it has been included in the development and construction of Zhanglin Ancient Port Scenic Area for planning and implementation.
