Jiangsu TV's predecessor, Nanjing TV Experimental Station, went on the air on May 1, 1960, and began broadcasting live theater in September 1961, broadcasting Princess Wencheng, Tianjing, Wind and Rain, Thunderstorm and The Capital of Heaven.
