Shuyang County is one of the three pilot counties in Jiangsu Province. Because it is located in the yang of Shu water, it is called Shu for short. It was called Houqiu and Huaiwen in ancient times. Located at the junction of Xuzhou, Lianyungang, Huai 'an and Suqian, it belongs to the transitional zone between the southern Shandong hills and the Jianghuai Plain.

According to the data of the seventh national census, as of 0: 00 1 1 on June 2020, the resident population of Shuyang County was1674,978, accounting for 33.59% of Suqian City.
Shuyang county has a long history. Houqiu County was established in the early Western Han Dynasty. In the seventh year of Jiande in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (578), Huaiwen County was changed to Shuyang County. 1996 was formerly under the jurisdiction of Huaiyin area and Huaiyin city. 1996 was incorporated into Suqian in July, and it was newly established as a district and city. Beijing-Shanghai Expressway has four interchanges in Shuyang County, and Xinchang Railway has a station in Shuyang County.
National trunk highways such as National Highway 205, Provincial Highway 245, Provincial Highway 326 and Provincial Highway 344 pass through the territory. Shuyang County has a dense river network, and 29 rivers, such as Xinyi River and Hu Aishu Xinhe River, run through the whole territory.
Location context
Shuyang County is located in the north of Jiangsu, downstream of Yishu-Sishui system, and belongs to the transitional zone between southern Shandong hills and Jianghuai Plain. The county seat is between 33 53' and 34 25' north latitude, between118 30' east longitude and 1 19 10' east longitude, 60 kilometers east-west and 55 kilometers north-south.
Lianyungang in the east, Huai 'an in the south, suyu district and xinyi city in Suqian in the west and Donghai County in the north. It is the border area of Xu, Lian, Huai and Su, with a total area of 2,298 square kilometers.
