There are quite a few ways to play the gyro, but there are two most common ways to play it:

First, the horizontal method: bend over and turn your wrist from behind, throw the gyro forward and then pull it back, and the gyro will rotate forward along the horizontal direction of the ground.

Second, the vertical method: throw the gyro from the top of the head to the ground.
